On Monday, Gov. Greg Abbott touted endorsements from a dozen Democratic sheriffs from border counties. By Wednesday, two of those sheriffs said they had not endorsed the governor via @kaylaguo_ @TexasTribune texastribune.org/2026/10/19/…

I used Airbnb a lot in its early years when it was all just, like, ppl renting out spare bedrooms or staying at their boyfriends' for the weekend so they could rent their own apt. for extra $$. It's amazing how the professionalization of Airbnb somehow made everything worse
It's hard to think of a service that's declined as much as Airbnb. To stay in someone's apartment, there's a good chance the bill will rival a Four Seasons resort and it probably comes with an extensive chore chart. There's almost zero reason not to stay in a hotel at this point.

Imagine any other business doing this. "Thanks for dining with us! Please bus your table, sweep the floor, compost your leftovers, and pay a $10 cleaning fee. And thanks for leaving on time so our next paying customer can begin their reservation on time."

I just got an email from Airbnb laying out new ground rules for what hosts can demand of guests, and THANK GOD. At my last Airbnb, I had to strip the beds, wash every dish, clean the kitchen, haul the trash out to the road, and there was still a $100 cleaning fee!

Anyway, this has really hit a nerve. But if you have to put your existing paying guests to work preparing your property for your future paying guests, while also charging everyone a cleaning fee, maybe hosting just isn't for you? It's OK not to host. We'd all be fine with that.

The kitten hasn’t figured out he can do his business outside so like three times a day he busts through the dog door like he’s taking a break at his 9-5 and then returns to his normal routine of chasing bugs in my milkweed How did I ever not like cats

Just shocking - even now - to bring all of this while the election is happening in front of us, and when asked for more specific information say "stay tuned bro."

Presumably one should not need to “stay tuned.” Presumably everything one would normally need to assess the viability of the claims would be more clear from what is already filed. Instead we have social media warriors employed as DOJ attorneys litigating this on X.

People say this all the time but this isn’t how the DOJ handles cases it expects to win. This isn’t how you do any of this. Which means they are either bad at this or the point is not to win in court. Both, maybe.

The "Texas Transgender Student Union" that sent out mailers, which have become a major controversy among Republicans, is a real organization — but it was only formed in September in Wyoming as an LLC and is entirely separate from TENT, the organization marketed in the fliers.
These are from an anonymous LLC formed in Wyoming last month. Of course it’s an op!

New: In early 2025, the FBI embarked on a major bribery investigation involving some of the most powerful men in Washington: Sen. Lindsey Graham, Rep. Jim Clyburn, and Rep. Joe Wilson. Then Trump purged the FBI and DOJ, leaving no one to carry out the investigation. It’s dead. 🧵
