🌍 As a global community with Irish roots, we are closely following the upcoming referendum #CareRef.
Our board, in alignment with many disabled ppl, activists, orgs & legal experts, does not support the proposed change... /1
I will be voting Yes to the referendum on Family and No to the referendum on Care. And I urge all those with voting rights to consider doing the same.

I've just finished this; I was not all that fluent, lacking spoons lately. It did get me thinking a lot more about #AutisticAutonomy. What everyone else said was very interesting, and I must watch it again.
Not to be missed and only about 2 months away now. It's a hybrid event online or inperson. I'm looking forward to speaking at it. Both on lived experience and professional experience. Normally I only do one so it will be fun to do too. #Neuroaffirmative #ActuallyAutistic #April #kildare #AutisticConference

Sunny days like today, I've a curious feeling. I don't miss college but I do miss exams. I've a rather bizarre craving to be sitting some intense exams. I'd love some exams on neuropsychology related subjects.

One of our Principal Psychologists is part of the amazing, mixed neurotype team providing this. Learn how to provide respectful, neuro-affirmative autism assessments with teenagers. We have seen first hand the life changing benefits of this approach 🙌

I would love to help out with this. But I am snowed under at the moment. But it would be a real loss not to get this data out there, Any #AutisticAutismResearchers got spoons?

I think both #NeurodiversityAffirmative and #NeurodivergentAffirmative are needed in different contexts.
Like for example the book #TheAdultAutismAssessmentHandbook; A Neurodiversity Affirmative Approach, deals with adult autism assessments, and as such there can be outcomes that are not confirming Neurodivergence.
And that is just as wonderful an outcome as confirming Neurodiivergence, as both Neurodivergence and neurotypical are as wonderful was of being. different but just as valid, therefore the term needs to be Neurodiverversity Affirmative not just Neurodivergent Affirmative.
For places like post assessment support, Neurodivergent Affirmative makes sense. But If we change to just using Neurodivergent affirmative in every instance, then places like workplaces will start using Neurodivergent affirmative when they should mean neurodiversity affirmative workplaces (As the whole environment of the workplace needs to change to work for everyone (Neurodiversity Affirmative)) as we dont want segregation.
We dont want to do something that seems simpler at first but ultimately we lose out and get to a stage where people are confused and no one will ever learn the difference between neurodiversity and Neurodivergence.
And we need everyone to understand that neurodiveristy has to do with everyone, not just the group of Neuodivergent people, because we need everyone on board to make changes to make the world and all it practices Neurodiversity affirmative and accessible to everyone and to follow principles of , if people see neurodivergent-affirmative in places where we really mean Neurodiversity affirmative then we are likely to get a whole pile of neurootypical people checking out and saying, hey that doesn’t have anything to do with me.
Therefore I think the distinction is key. We just got to put more effort into learning the difference, little bit more work, little bit more time involved but the outcome i think will be immensely worth it.
PS; we should also all be clear that neurodiverse refers to groups of more than one neurotype, it never refers to individual people. Therefore the term a “neurodiverse person” makes no sense.
