1/3 A personal announcement. I rarely post on here these days, so I’m not entirely sure whether I’m speaking into the void, but this platform was always an important place to me until Musk fucked it, and there are still people I value on here.

2/3 Several weeks ago I was diagnosed with high-grade, very aggressive prostate cancer. I’ve written properly about what’s happening, why I’m sharing it now, and what comes next here: theautisticadvocate.com/a-pe…

Superfially. An incredibly reductive narrative tho. Chronic stigma developmentally changes dynamics & context dramatically. Masking isn't just mimicry, & only superficially is it *just* a social narrative. Equally, if "everybody masks", how can only "those who are able" do it?
Everybody masks. I’ve gotten a lot of hate for saying that before, but it’s true. It’s just autistic people (who are able to) are pretty terrible at mimicking others.

I dug into Nicki Minaj’s use of the world “neurodivergent” — Where did it come from? What does it mean? And how does a very niche, 25+ year old activist word end up being used on the far right? 19thnews.org/2026/03/nicki-m…

Yes, Sami did ten years ago and was told that it is not a 'natural category' but a socially constructed one regarding categorical framing (which also changes over time). The biological underpinning of neurodiversity he avoids to mention. We are not all carbon copies.
Is anyone asking the obvious and fundamental question: on what evidential basis can you conclude that autism represents a natural category that is ‘neuro’- based and can be differentiated from other natural categories, whether disorder or difference?

1/2 The 1st is about treating people like valid human beings including recognising, identifying & supporting needs inclusive of social & body-based barriers The 2nd narrative of prevention, cure & disorder-based intervention is about value judgements, dehumanisation & eugenics
In autism the difference activists assert they are autistic, not people with autism. Those (including parents) who considered autism a disease/disorder campaign for better recognition, prevention, treatment and support. This disagreement has become heated. Why is this?

2/2 The disorder narrative has been the dominant narrative for the last 125 years, its clearly served us so well because so much has improved (it hasn't) Its very worrying that 'treat people like valid human beings' seems to be such an anathema to 'critical' psychiatrists.

Grifting is a major mechanism for maintaining a false narrative. the anti-neurodiversity cult is revealing that deep down they know how fragile their construct is given the pseudo science that reigns supreme in those spaces #NothingFrithSaidWasEvidentialItJustFedYourBias

Research note: Kanner's original N=11 autistics had extremely heterogeneous later outcomes, as generally did the autistics he reported on, as generally did diagnosed autistics in the literature before the "spectrum" became a thing (just a reminder, in case anyone's forgotten)

It’s astounding! I find it fascinating when people think or portray themselves as experts while blissfully unaware how transparent their ignorance of the topic shines through the word salad. I would be utterly embarrassed if I intentionally or inadvertently behaved this way....
Replying to @Dmdav1
It’s wonderful that so many people with no expertise or lived experience of autism are able to opine so confidently on a topic they know zilch about.

Would be nice if people read even a little bit regarding concepts that they then go on to undermine. Just ends up in people talking past each other and straw men etc.

I'm not someone who shies away from hard conversations, but I draw the line at validating the psychology equivalent of GB News U & ur cohost, Drinkwater (who grossly misrepresented this article on LinkedIn), have proven to be nothing more than disingenious & lacking good faith
Would you be up for explaining the problems on our podcast? We welcome a range of perspectives because we think that that is the way to learn.

If u were interested in learning, or good faith debate, listening would come before spunking your poorly informed & misrepresentative views all over multiple social media platforms with little regard for impact Go use someone else for your grift That's a no, if it wasn't clear

It's notable how none of the 'overdiagnosis' crowd ever targets PD. Praps there's no real scientific motivation behind overdiagnosis claims but instead moral resentment toward any diagnosis perceived to reframe disliked behaviours as needing compassion rather than judgement.
