I used to pay most of my attention to the headline payroll number whenever NFP was approaching. I've learned that there's usually more to the story. Friday's October employment report is a good example. The market is expecting around 65K new jobs, unemployment at 4.2%, and monthly wage growth of approximately 0.3%. Now I'm trying to work out what each possible result could mean for the markets I follow on @BingXTradFi. A stronger report, especially above 115K jobs, could make another Fed rate hike in December look more likely. That could give the dollar some strength and create pressure for BTC and gold. A result closer to expectations might leave things largely unchanged, although wages and revisions could still surprise traders. Then there's the weaker outcome. Payrolls below 15K or unemployment reaching 4.3% or higher could challenge expectations of further tightening, potentially giving BTC and gold some support. There's another detail I don't want to overlook: previous-month revisions. The last payroll reading was 29K, and July and August were revised down by a combined 60K. So even if October looks strong, those adjustments could change how the market reads the report. NFP can bring sharp moves and sudden reversals, so I'm not treating any of these scenarios as a guaranteed trading signal.
