For Armistice Day here’s a very touching account by Lord (Tom) Denning about the death of his brother Jack on the Somme.

Fascinating that there are red envelopes with Mao cutouts. As time goes on, « Mao » will more and more be but a symbol for money

Coming back to this, I do think part of the problem is the way in which poppies have been swept up into a patriotic poppy police fever. It's not true to the nature of the thing, it's not helpful, and is almost always the not very bright who insist on it – at Nether Poppleton, England

I can't speak to the difficulty of getting a box to sell, though I definitely believe it. I can say that the move from plastic to paper has resulted in Poppies that are much much harder to pin and maintain.
A lot of this is the fault of the Royal British Legion itself. For the last four years it’s been a nightmare trying to get poppies to sell at church - and I presume others have had the same problem. This means there are fewer poppies to buy - and the paper ones are now useless and fall off within hours.
The thing is that what is said on paper and what we know so often happens when it comes to conversion therapy are two wildly different things. – at Nether Poppleton, England
