On 30 June 2007, John Smeaton was simply on his break. A baggage handler at Glasgow Airport, off duty, born in Bishopton and raised just down the road in Erskine. Then he watched two men drive a burning Jeep, filled with gas cylinders, into the airport entrance. Three explosions followed. Most people would run for cover. John ran towards it. Beside the blazing Jeep lay Michael Kerr, a fellow member of the public who had also stepped in to stop the attack and was now left with a broken leg. John helped drag him clear of the flames, to safety. In the weeks that followed , the world wanted to hear from him. Well wishers donated more than 1,000 pints in his honour, and he pledged half the money to Erskine, the charity caring for Scotland’s former servicemen and women. AUSTIN MAN walks up to a couple in the parking lot outside Macy's at The Domain on Sunday afternoon, shoots the man multiple times, then forces woman into a car, and drives off with her. Leonel Galvan Hernandez was out on bond for another aggravated assault with a deadly weapon when he did it. Sheriff's deputies arrested him for that one in February. A judge set bond at $5,000 and issued an emergency protective order. He was back out two days after his arrest. Then the case sat. The protective order expired in June. Eight months later, DA Jose Garza's office still hasn't indicted him. The case has been pushed to a sixth pre-indictment setting, scheduled for Nov. 18. The male victim at the Domain survived after being rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The woman was later found unharmed. Two arrests for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in eight months. Zero indictments. Then one man shot and a woman kidnapped at a shopping mall.

A convicted felon is charged with pulling a gun on an elderly man in downtown Indianapolis after the man spoke up for a woman who was being berated. Damon Moore is charged with: - Unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, a Level 4 felony - Intimidation with a deadly weapon, a Level 5 felony - Pointing a firearm, a Level 6 felony This happened October 21 outside John J. Barton Tower on Mass Ave. Court documents allege multiple people called 911 to report a man who was pointing a gun at a disabled man. Officers reportedly took Moore into custody shortly after getting there with witnesses helping identify him. Witnessed reportedly told police that Moore was screaming at a woman outside the building. When the elderly man told him to stop, they said Moore became angry, went inside and came back with a handgun. A witness captured photos and a video of Moore pointing the gun and threatening to kill him. Police never found the gun during their initial search and believe Moore hid it before officers could recover it. Detectives later found a firearm during a traffic stop involving the tenant of the apartment where a source said it was concealed. The firearm was collected and submitted for DNA processing. Moore is being held on a no bond hold and has his next court date scheduled for January. Court records show Moore has been in and out of the Marion County Jail 34 times since 2003. He has past convictions for felony battery, felony theft, felon carrying a handgun, resisting law enforcement, battery marijuana possession.

In November 2021, a fisherman found body parts in McKay Bay, an arm of the larger Tampa Bay. The body was identified as Stephanie Crone-Overholts, after police released photos of her tattoo, 3 hearts including the name of her son. Police arrested Robert Kessler for drug charges first, and then they found evidence of Stephanie’s blood in his van and home. Stephanie was living with Kessler, and it is believed that they had a falling out, which led to her murder and dismemberment. 😢 After 5 years, his trial starts today in a Hillsborough County courtroom. An American Airlines flight attendant who used her travel benefits to fly to a 75-year-old Palm Coast woman’s home as part of a sweepstakes scam is in custody after a Flagler County Sheriff’s Office investigation led to her arrest in Miami. Late Friday evening, U.S. Customs and Border Protection arrested Destiny Blake, 24, of Brooklyn, New York, on a Flagler County warrant as she arrived at Miami International Airport on an international flight. The scam started in November 2025 with a phone call. The caller, who claimed to be with Publishers Clearing House, told the victim she had won. To collect her “winnings,” the victim was instructed to mail a $500 gift card to “Destiny Blake” at a Brooklyn address, which she did. During this time, the victim was also locked out of her own email account. The password had been changed and the account switched to look-a-like address she never created. Between Nov. 15 and Nov. 19, 2025, the victim withdrew more than $14,000 from her bank. Blake received $14,220 in cash and Zelle payments. On Nov. 18, Blake flew from New York to Daytona Beach as a standby passenger using her flight attendant benefits and then took an Uber to a hotel on State Road 100 in Palm Coast. The next morning, an Uber dropped Blake off at the victim’s home just before 11 a.m. Fifteen minutes later, another Uber picked her up and took her back to the Daytona Beach airport. Before she flew home, purchases were made on the victim’s credit card at the Daytona Beach and Charlotte airports. Detectives determined Blake had been issued her own Apple Card as an authorized user on the victim’s account. A family member later found a note in the victim’s home with instructions to call the card company and tell them Blake was her granddaughter and was authorized to use the card. Between Nov. 16 and Dec. 11, 2025, 88 charges totaling $10,590.30 were charged to the victim’s credit cards. They included a $1,740.91 eBay order shipped to Blake’s Brooklyn address, $1,523.16 spent on Apple products and more than $1,300 spent at T-Mobile, Ugg, a Brooklyn hair salon, and dozens of Uber rides and Uber Eats orders. One Uber ride was paid in Jamaican dollars in Kingston, two days after Blake flew there while working for American Airlines. The online orders were done using Blake’s own name, email address and phone number. Detectives obtained surveillance video of Blake using the victim’s card at a Queens supermarket. Detectives also determined that Blake’s phone was in the area of the stores on the dates of the transactions. In total, the victim lost approximately $25,310. Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Blake on Oct. 13, 2026 for the thefts and fraudulent charges. “Most flight attendants use their benefits to see the world. Blake used her’s to further a scam against a senior resident, live a lavish lifestyle using stolen bank cards and thinking she could get away with it,” said Sheriff Rick Staly. “Her wings were clipped by our detectives and with the help of CPB she was arrested. Her next trip? Flagler County to be held accountable for her crimes.” U.S. Customs and Border Protection arrested Blake for organized scheme to defraud over $20,000 from a victim 65 or older, fraudulent use of personal identification information of a person 60 or older, and grand theft over $20,000. She was transported to the Miami-Dade County jail, where she was later released on a $30,000 bond. Families caring for an older adult can shut off many of the ways scammers reach them and take over their accounts.
