🚨 From Selling Samosas to Owning Five Aircraft: Mike Mukula Shares His Remarkable Business Journey
Ugandan politician and businessman Captain Mike Mukula has shared his remarkable journey from selling samosas in Soroti to owning five aircraft before joining Parliament in 1996, using his experience to inspire young people to embrace entrepreneurship.
Speaking at a 2026 business masterclass, Mukula reflected on his humble beginnings and the business ventures that shaped his career before he ventured into politics.
“I entered Parliament in 1996 owning five airplanes, having once been a kid selling samosas in Soroti City. I returned to the same place as its Member of Parliament. When others were fighting over car logbooks, I was possessing plane logbooks,” Mukula said.
A professional pilot, Mukula reportedly flew for President Yoweri Museveni and ventured into aviation, including leasing Cessna aircraft as part of his business activities.
His journey from selling samosas to building an aviation business and eventually becoming the Member of Parliament for Soroti Municipality highlights the entrepreneurial experience he says helped shape his career.
During the masterclass, Mukula also emphasised the importance of entrepreneurship, particularly among young people who may be focused on securing government jobs rather than exploring business opportunities.
He also spoke about the future he envisions for his children, stressing the value of developing an entrepreneurial mindset instead of relying solely on traditional employment.
Mukula’s story highlights his message that entrepreneurship can open doors to financial independence, business growth and leadership beyond conventional career paths.

Where my President abideth, there I also abideth. So long as His Excellency @KagutaMuseveni is still here, I am also still here. And when he shall depart, I shall depart with him. Loyalty, in its purest form, knows no retirement.

On 22nd October, we engaged pupils of St. Peter’s Primary School, Nsambya, in a road safety sensitisation session, with emphasis on the importance of wearing crash helmets when travelling on motorcycles.
A few pupils received helmets as part of our efforts to promote safer journeys for children. We extend our sincere appreciation to our partners, @VivoEnergyUg, for supporting this life-saving initiative.
Every child deserves a safe journey. Let’s protect our children and save lives, one helmet at a time.

Some prayers have taken longer than we expected, but delay does not mean the end of the story. May God strengthen everyone who has been waiting patiently for an answer. May He give us grace while we wait and wisdom to recognise His timing.
May the doors meant for us open at the right moment, and may our waiting season prepare us for the blessing we have been praying for.

@uppc_uganda, through the Public & Corporate Affairs Department, joined public relations practitioners and other stakeholders in Jinja City for the @PRAU_Uganda Golden Jubilee Conference, held from 20–23 October 2026 under the theme “Celebrating 50 Years of Professional Excellence: Shaping the Future of Public Relations.”
The conference explored the evolving role of PR in institutional leadership, reputation management, crisis communication, digital transformation and stakeholder engagement. Sessions on AI in communication, ethical practice, sustainability and integrated marketing communications highlighted emerging approaches to building public trust and delivering measurable organisational value.
The insights provided an opportunity for UPPC to learn how to continually refine its communication approaches, deepen stakeholder relationships and leverage digital platforms to reach wider audiences. As the Corporation advances its transformation agenda, strategic communication remains central to demonstrating its value, building confidence in its services and reinforcing its contribution to national development.
Congratulations, @PRAU_Uganda, on 50 years of professional excellence and advancing the public relations profession in Uganda.

Three months since he collapsed, I finally had the opportunity to see and meet my leader, @kizzabesigye1! Before meeting him, I had imagined so many things about his appearance and current condition. It broke my heart to see that he is now being taught how to walk and talk again. A speech therapist was using a word chart with simple words like "dog" and "boy," which KB is supposed to try his hardest to pronounce, though he hasn’t succeeded yet.
KB uses an alphabetical letter chart where he taps out letters for you to write down and piece together what he is saying. Sensing that I was shocked about his current state, he pointed that “it could have been worse.”
We both would laugh when he would check my notes and realize I had written something completely different from what he was spelling out! 🙈🙈 I tried to defend myself by saying that’s what he had tapped, and we would laugh again. When I ran out of excuses for my mistakes, I reminded him that my eyes aren't fully functional, which is why I wear glasses. 🙈
KB is now also an expert of sign language, when he gets tired of using the chat, he uses signs 😳
He hears very well, but he not able to talk yet. I commended his sharp brain of being able to communicate by tapping letters of alphabet.
He doesn’t remember exactly what happened at court, he remembers waking up days later while in the ICU at Mulago.
As we conversed, I was drinking water, When I offered him a bottle as well, I was reminded that he cannot hold a bottle of water on his own. His hands aren’t firm, they are shaky and lack strength.
He stated that we are back in the 1890s but encouraged us to hang in there. He said that under the current regime, just staying alive is an achievement.
Salongo @EriasLukwago is his neighbor in the same facility, but they have never met. I informed him how Lukwago was taken to Mulago.
Seeing KB in state he is was incredibly painful, but his enduring spirit and sharp mind remind me why he is the leader he is. Please keep KB in your thoughts and prayers as he walks this long, difficult road to recovery. His resilience gives me hope that we will get through this dark chapter. Long live KB🙏🏻
