Sounds nice, but we should also aim to create a favourable and enabling environment for these SMEs to thrive especially how I wish URA can cut down the exhorbitant charges they levy on these entities.

You forgot to call out the tax man... They ought to understand the economic situation, and give room for businesses to survive the tough times, than killing them with heavy tax bills..

Uganda’s private sector, particularly SMEs, must embrace strategic financial discipline and prudent management. Businesses should eliminate wasteful expenditure, rationalize operating costs, defer non essential capital investments, restructure expensive debt and safeguard cash flows. Liquidity, efficiency and productivity must take precedence over aggressive expansion and unnecessary borrowing. Every shilling invested must generate measurable value. This is a time for consolidation, innovation, resilience and sound financial decisions. Sustainable businesses are built not merely through expansion, but through disciplined management of resources and strategic foresight….we are all in the same boat…we must all try to survive the economic volatility.

Dark clouds are gathering over Uganda’s private sector, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). I foresee a rough ride ahead as businesses confront high borrowing costs, tightening bank credit, cash-flow pressures and rising operating costs. The economic turbulence could be severe. Banks must become partners in business survival, not merely debt collectors. Government must urgently prioritize affordable credit, liquidity and enterprise protection. SMEs are the backbone of employment and economic growth. When the private sector struggles, the entire economy feels the pain.

In addition, Mike Mukula is the best political mobiliser NRM pary has ever had. He too was a champion against LRA incursion into Teso. He formed the arrow boys that beat the hell out of Kony and those LRA men. It is that defeat of Kony in Teso that actually weakened him to flee.

America’s engagement with Africa should be guided by mutual respect, sovereignty and strategic partnership not punitive policies, sanctions or selective political pressure. Whether under Democratic or Republican administrations, African leaders deserve constructive dialogue rather than confrontation. President Trump’s approach raises an important debate about diplomacy, national interests and non-interference. Africa seeks trade, investment, technology transfer and partnerships built on mutual benefit, not political lectures. Africa deserves respect, not coercion!

99.99% of bank/moneylender loans in Uganda are risky. A bank in Uganda is not an aid to trade, but an a killer. You borrow a goat, you return a cow. Loans burry businesses in Uganda. Government is ignorant about this. When the shepherd does not see the trap, the sheep keep dying

🚨 From Selling Samosas to Owning Five Aircraft: Mike Mukula Shares His Remarkable Business Journey Ugandan politician and businessman Captain Mike Mukula has shared his remarkable journey from selling samosas in Soroti to owning five aircraft before joining Parliament in 1996, using his experience to inspire young people to embrace entrepreneurship. Speaking at a 2026 business masterclass, Mukula reflected on his humble beginnings and the business ventures that shaped his career before he ventured into politics. “I entered Parliament in 1996 owning five airplanes, having once been a kid selling samosas in Soroti City. I returned to the same place as its Member of Parliament. When others were fighting over car logbooks, I was possessing plane logbooks,” Mukula said. A professional pilot, Mukula reportedly flew for President Yoweri Museveni and ventured into aviation, including leasing Cessna aircraft as part of his business activities. His journey from selling samosas to building an aviation business and eventually becoming the Member of Parliament for Soroti Municipality highlights the entrepreneurial experience he says helped shape his career. During the masterclass, Mukula also emphasised the importance of entrepreneurship, particularly among young people who may be focused on securing government jobs rather than exploring business opportunities. He also spoke about the future he envisions for his children, stressing the value of developing an entrepreneurial mindset instead of relying solely on traditional employment. Mukula’s story highlights his message that entrepreneurship can open doors to financial independence, business growth and leadership beyond conventional career paths. #Privatesector #Bussiness # entrepreneurship

Ethiopia raised most of the GERD financing domestically through the Commercial Bank of Ethiopia plus public/diaspora contributions. Uganda could adapt this with a dedicated National Energy Development Fund. Have any preliminary costings or timelines for the nuclear component been modelled yet?

UGANDA CAN LEARN FROM ETHIOPIA! Ethiopia’s Grand Renaissance Dam 6.000 MW Dam @ the cost of nearly $ 5 Billion most of it raised domestically demonstrates the power of patriotism, national determination and domestic resource mobilization. Uganda can adopt this model to finance strategic energy infrastructure without excessive foreign borrowing through National Infrastructure Bonds, NSSF investments, diaspora bonds, private sector equity and government allocations. We could initially develop 3,000 MW of nuclear power, with provision for future expansion, targeting Africa’s lowest sustainable electricity tariffs to drive industrialization across manufacturing, mining, steel, cement, agro-processing, transport and other productive sectors. A professionally managed National Energy Development Fund, backed by transparent governance, rigorous nuclear safety standards and long-term investment planning, could mobilize domestic capital. Affordable, reliable baseload electricity is the foundation of industrial competitiveness, job creation, value addition and economic transformation. Africa must increasingly finance its own development! @KagutaMuseveni @jessica_alupo @R_Nabbanja @DrMusenero @rggoobi
