For Constitution Day, a draft of the document with notes written in George Washington's own hand! It's from the 1787 Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia, where delegates from each state met to draft the Constitution. Washington likely made these notes while discussing the text with his peers.

Forty voices. Forty lives. A story of courage that will never be forgotten. Standing 93 feet tall at Flight 93 National Memorial, the Tower of Voices holds 40 wind chimes, each representing one of the passengers and crew members of United Airlines Flight 93. When the wind moves across the Pennsylvania landscape, their voices continue to ring. We remember their courage. We remember their sacrifice. We remember the 40 lives lost 25 years ago.

Check out this rare surviving wax seal from 1782! Why use a wax seal? It assured the recipient of a letter’s authorship and security. During the Revolutionary War, George Washington used so much red sealing wax that he regularly ordered it by the pound. This example comes from a July 20, 1782, letter to Washington's friend Elizabeth Powel. Its design features the Washington family crest, including what Washington called a “flying griffin.” Because seals were often split or cut from letters, surviving examples are rare.
