Practice complaining and you’ll be good at complaining.
Practice being negative and you’ll be good at being negative.
Practice gratitude and you’ll be good at being grateful.
Practice being positive and you’ll be good at being positive.
You get good at what you practice.

I’ve always been a fan of the athlete who may not be the most talented on the team, but shows up every day, works hard, stays coachable, supports their teammates, and refuses to give up. Sometimes, the athletes who teach us the most aren’t the ones putting up the biggest numbers.

Traveling teaches you to love the world, but coming home teaches you to love your life. There is nothing like the comfort of your own bed after a long journey.

Who works.
Who leads.
Who cares.
Who pretends.
They always know.

Kobe on Leadership:
"Leadership is Lonely. If you are going to be a leader, you are not going to please everybody. You have to hold people accountable. Even if you have that moment of being uncomfortable."

I truly believe in development. That’s why I’m not quick to say somebody won’t be good.
A ton can change in a few years.. especially if you have the right circle.

Coaches, we need to hunt out and crave feedback as much as our players do. There is always something to learn and someone to learn it from.

Kobe Bryant once said:
“Everyone wants to be a beast. Everyone wants to be the best. But very few people are willing to do what it actually takes. Because what it takes is boring. It is waking up at 4:00 AM. It is shooting the same shot a thousand times. It is watching the film when you are tired. People fall in love with the result, but they hate the process. You have to fall in love with the boredom. You have to fall in love with the repetition.
If you can find joy in the mundane work that no one else sees, the lights will eventually shine on you.”

I work on myself because I understand that I am responsible for where I end up. Not for everything that has happened to me, but for every response, every habit, and every decision I made after it.
That distinction is everything.
Blame is easy. Ownership is what actually changes your life.

Your energy is contagious.
So is your attitude.
So is your work ethic.
So is your negativity.
When you’re a leader, you don’t just get to choose what you bring into the room.
You have to understand that everyone else FEELS it too.

Paige Bueckers on the new UConn documentary:
“Yeah, I got to watch it. Our team approved it and stuff like that. Obviously like you said, I lived it and was a part of it, but to have it on film, to have it kind of be documented and to see other people. For me, it was like I wanted other people to see that it’s not always beautiful. Like, we won the national championship at the end, but the adversity, the hard times, the days where you don’t want to show up anymore. Like, that’s real. So to be human, to embrace that and really just fight through adversity, like that’s what life is about and how it took a village. It wasn’t just me. There were so many teammates and coaches, strength and conditioning staff, my doctors who helped me recover from my injuries. Like it really takes a village and to have a great faith, a great determination to have great people around you. I think that’s what it was all about.”
