@RCSD_No81 @TheSixShifts book chat discussing comprehension. Biggest lean in for me is rooted in my love of linguistics. Reading is an oral language experience. We convert all we read to oral language in our brains. We have to be able to talk about it to understand it! ππ»
βConversation is the most meaningful way for readers to connect to the text and one another in a culture of literacyβ¦because oral language is the bedrock of literacy, be sure to include conversation as another level of engagement and extension, scaffolded through questions.β (Ness, 2024. P.37).
Making connections between these two fabulous books, Read Alouds, by Molly Ness and Strive-For-Five conversations by @SoniaCabell.
Bookmarks can help scaffold meaningful, open-ended questions before, during and after a read aloud! Check out these terrific bookmarks created by SLP @MelindaHinch for more ideasβ¦

This lies squarely at the feet of @PremierScottMoe and @jeremycockrill.
Teachers are burning out. Government refuses to discuss critical issues while openly disrespecting teachers and the profession. We offered a way out of the impasse; they rejected it. It's on them now.

Brilliant post by @KaeTurberfield on FB. Well said! Stole it to post it here for @jeremycockrill and @PremierScottMoe - maybe they could use a little time in one of these classrooms to learn how to be an ENGAGED citizen.

Scott Moe and the Sask. Party are not setting our kids up for success.
It didn't have to come to this.
They have left teachers no choice except to fight for whatβs best for our kids.

In just 2 minutes and 17 seconds- less time than it takes to sit in drive-thru for your coffee- you can learn from literacy expert @LouisaMoats the importance of Spelling and how it is deeply interconnected to the reading process.

Parents and caregivers: @ONlit_social has created this great glossary of literacy terms which may be helpful for you as you support your children.
(Educators: you might find this valuable too!)
