Hot take: I’d rather my team win the World Series instead of lose it.
Hot take: I'd rather be part of one of the most entertaining World Series ever and lose like the Blue Jays did last year than win a really boring World Series like the Brewers are about to this year.

I understand the economics of buying a national ad during the World Series for the Florida Senate race — the state has 10 media markets — but it only works if you believe the Tampa Bay Rays have fans.

I love serving this church. @FaithPresGF began when the new congregation particularized in the PCA in 1995. In 2007, the church relocated to what was then the Grand Cities Mall (now known as Midtown District), occupying a large office in the profession office wing. In April 2008, the congregation moved into a mall space formerly occupied by a local florist. And then, just over 4 years ago, we moved into this current space (an old Radio Shack). In June 2016, the church decided to transfer into the OPC and was subsequently received as a mission work under Carson/Bismarck (now Mandan). I was called to the pastor on January 15, 2017 and was installed July 31, 2017. May the Lord continue to grant us his mercy and grace in the years to come. If you're ever in the Grand Forks area, we'd love to have you join us for worship!

I am deeply saddened to learn of Walter Koenig’s passing. Although we did not know each other well away from the set, we shared the later seasons of the original Star Trek series and the six films that followed. What I observed, and what so many fans have expressed over the years, was a man who genuinely loved the Star Trek community. At conventions, Walter was rarely content to remain behind a signing table. He preferred to be among the people who had kept Star Trek alive for so many decades. That kind of genuine connection is rare, and it will be remembered by everyone who came into contact with him. My condolences to his family, his friends, and the countless fans whose lives he touched.

Today I issued an Executive Order designating “Seminole Wind” by John Anderson as the official anthem of Florida. I have also directed the @FLSecofState to erect historic markers in the City of Apopka depicting John Anderson’s contribution to Florida’s heritage. In addition, I have tasked @FLDEPNews to work with the @SJRWMD to designate wildlife drive and trail system within Lake Apopka North Shore as the John Anderson Wildlife Drive and Trail System.

Imagine asking this IN THE YEAR OF OUR LORD, 2026.
I’ve asked this before but is there any historical event that is like the Opposite of 9/11. Like something so good that happened that it changed the world forever

I volunteer at my church. I greet first time visitors and show them around. I’ve seen women come in wearing tube tops and tight pants. I’ve seen men come in wearing t shirts with skulls and heavy metal bands. And we praise the Lord they are there. They need to hear about Jesus too.
Woman at church yesterday showed up in a sweatshirt and literal pajama pants. Wore her hood the entire service. I was absolutely appalled. I hate this whole, “came as you are” narrative the Protestant church preaches. Other religions wouldn’t let you in if you dressed so disrespectfully. Why is it only Christian’s that are held to this standard? That we must just accept everything?

One of the ironies of hardcore anti-immigration “Heritage Americans” is that the bulk of the modern border control and immigration paradigm in the US and most other Western nations originates as WW1 security measures and then expanded and settled as a part of the post-WW2 consensus. This doesn’t necessarily make these immigration policy paradigms either good or bad, but they’re absolutely modern in comparison to the majority of American and Western civilization. It’s a fairly shallow heritage and demonstrably modern.

The building on the left is the Old Post Office in DC. It was built in 1899. You can take a tour of the old bell tower. It’s pretty cool. Trump leased part of the building for a few years.

🇺🇸 Twin brothers Bartlett and John Ellsworth with their older brother Samuel of Company A, 12th New Hampshire Infantry. The three enlisted from Wentworth, New Hampshire, in August 1862. Samuel was 42. The twins were 39. Bartlett died of typhoid fever near Falmouth, Virginia, on December 22, 1862, and is buried in Fredericksburg National Cemetery. His widow, Nancy, received a pension for their four children. At Chancellorsville the following May, both John and Samuel were reported missing. Samuel was captured and paroled twelve days later. John returned to the regiment and was discharged for disability in September 1864. Samuel transferred to the Veteran Reserve Corps in January 1864, deserted in October, and returned home to his wife and children. He lived until 1895. John died in Wentworth in 1881. When George Washington was inaugurated in 1789, he wore a relatively plain brown frock coat. To the modern eye, the garment may look fancy, but it was relatively constrained for a man of Washington's position. Affluent Americans at the time tended to wear European fabrics, as centuries of textile tradition on that side of the Atlantic meant that their materials were finer, silkier, and more luxurious. Those who could afford to wear such materials often did, not just because they were more comfortable, but because they signaled status. Washington rejected this convention for his inauguration, opting instead for a plain brown frock coat made from an American-made material, specifically one produced by a relatively new upstart in Connecticut. It's also notable that his outfit for that day was considerably more restrained than those of leaders in other Western nations. For instance, check out this outfit on George III (slide one). In this 1762 coronation painting, we can see the British monarch wearing a gold damask coat with a velvet mantle lined and edged with ermine and trimmed in gold. Even his shoes featured solid gold buckles. Washington opted for something simpler because he wanted to send two political messages. First, he wanted to support domestic industry (hence his request that the garment be made from American woolen broadcloth). Second, he understood that the US was supposed to be a democratic republic, not a monarchy. Back in Europe, monarchs wore fancy ceremonial attire to reinforce their position in society. Washington, by contrast, chose something more restrained, signaling that he was not governing through divine right but rather through consent of the people. Irish-born architect James Holban also understood this when he designed the White House in the Neoclassical style, drawing from Georgian and Palladian architecture. Neoclassicism was a rejection of Rococo, which had been fashionable among European monarchs and aristocrats in the preceding decades. Most people will know Rococo from the photos of the lavish French palaces erected during the reign of Louis XV. Much like the elaborate ceremonial attire of European monarchs, these interiors were meant to impress upon people the wealth and power of European leaders. The visual grandeur reinforced the idea that these people fundamentally occupied a different social station from those they governed. To be sure, the White House was much nicer than what ordinary Americans at the time would have occupied. But much like Washington's inauguration outfit, Hoban's design was meant to balance the dignity of the office with the republican ideal that political authority ultimately comes from the people. Our leaders are not above us; they are here to serve us. That is why the White House was decorated in this relatively restrained way for almost 250 years, changing only recently. I have seen some on here suggest that glorifying the White House is meant to glorify the state, and thus the citizens. But this logic was historically used by dictators abroad, not US presidents.
That former presidents did nothing to modernize elevate the White House is pathetic and embarrassing. As for Trump’s decor, style - travel to the world’s capitals and monuments. You will see he’s very restrained and incredibly tasteful by comparison.
