End of map trip to US: I arranged a meeting between two archrivals of NY subway map: @mta and @kickmap (@FlammSteven left, Eddie & Dan Jabbour right). Both maps trace back to Vignelli (1972) but evolved in different directions. Fascinating discussion: thanks guys! Photo: @londowl

You also published a trunk-colored diagrammatic map with separated routes four years before your hero Massimo Vignelli came up with the same idea for Men’s Vogue. This new @mta map just confirms your standing as a thought leader! A trailblazer!
The @MTA just copied a key feature of our @KickMap - the letter/number train designations in each station dot. They have copied other features of our map in the past but this is much more obvious.

I should get @KickMap on the podcast so we can just ramble about subway map design for 45 minutes.

F train express service begun operation on 16 September but @MTA doesn't seem to care to show it on the map. With subway systems things stand pretty clear, if a service is not on the map it doesn't exist. Thanks @KickMap for the information 👍 inat.fr/metro/new-york/

As lights start turning back on, our crews are checking signals and operating test trains. A big thank you to staff driving buses, setting up generators, updating service info and ensuring customer safety on tracks and in stations.

I’ve been home for an hour or so already but I had to abandon the uptown F at 23rd Street and walk over to the N at Madison Square. That went mostly fine but we did bypass a non-lit 57th Street on our way to Queensborough Plaza. – at Long Island City, Queens

Where do we start?! Compressing multi-lines into confusing single lines. Station names overlapping the lines & going every-which-way! Bus connection overlays on top of that! A communications disaster unfitting the world’s greatest but most complex transit system! #transit #NYC

#TodayinHistory: In 1870, Alfred Ely Beach opened the Beach Pneumatic Subway – a 312 ft. tunnel running underneath Broadway between Warren Street and Murray Street. The first attempt at underground transit in #NYC, the tunnel operated a single car by means of compressed air.

To celebrate the Yanks' hosting the AL Wild Card game, the Lo-V trains will depart from the uptown express tracks at Grand Central at 7 p.m. on Wednesday night en route to Yankee Stadium. It's a 35-minute non-stop ride.

Resembling a diagram for electrical circuits, this historical reconstruction of an 1893-1903 #transit #map shows the complex web of multiple tracks, rail interchanges and train storage yards in #Manhattan. Stay tuned for our upcoming #exhibit, "Navigating New York," opening 10/3.

Let me explain this clearly. The @mta is a bunch of kingdoms in a single organization with no accountability. They will never clean their act up in the current form. End of story.
