The real stress test begins after the breach. Binance has started restoring withdrawals in phases following the record $6.3 billion security incident. Crypto is entering the bank capital rulebook. Canada’s updated prudential framework for bank crypto-asset exposures took effect on November 1 for institutions whose fiscal year ended October 31. Institutions with a December 31 year-end transition on January 1, 2027. The framework separates tokenized traditional assets, qualifying value-referenced assets such as certain stablecoins, hedging-eligible crypto assets and higher-risk exposures. Treatment changes with the classification: qualifying tokenized assets can follow their underlying traditional exposure, while Group 2b assets face the most conservative outcome, including deduction from common equity tier-one capital. Stablecoins do not receive a free pass. Banks must assess their reserve and stabilization mechanisms, perform continuing due diligence and apply specific liquidity treatment. Bitquery measured $10.3 billion in decentralized-exchange trading for tokenized stocks and ETFs during October across six issuers and five blockchains. Robinhood- and Coinbase-issued tokens together represented roughly half of that measured volume. The more important signal may be timing: 65% of trading from October 2–31 occurred outside regular U.S. market hours. Tokenized equities continued moving before the opening bell, after the close and through weekends. But the headline needs context. This is DEX volume, not the entire tokenized-stock market. Trades inside issuer applications and centralized exchanges were excluded. Bitquery also found that bot-like round trips materially affected the issuer rankings, while October 1 required an estimate. Bitcoin Core has publicly disclosed three vulnerabilities discovered through an automated language-model scan and subsequently verified by human contributors. The most direct issue, rated medium severity, allowed a malicious peer to exhaust memory and crash connected Bitcoin Core nodes running on Windows, macOS or BSD.
