🎉This #WorldMigratoryBirdDay we are launching 6 brand new ocean flyways! 😮 We are completely in awe of seabirds and hope you will be too! 🌊 By creating new ocean #BirdLifeFlyways, we can bring people together to save seabirds. ➡ birdlife.org/globalflyways/

Not to alarm you, but... Things will get worse before they get better see "Many scientists don’t want to tell the truth about climate change.", Barbara Morin, WBur, Cognoscenti. (cant post the link because of media rules in Canada) wbur.org/cognoscenti/2023/10…

The first global temperature data is in for the full month of September. This month was, in my professional opinion as a climate scientist – absolutely gobsmackingly bananas. JRA-55 beat the prior monthly record by over 0.5C, and was around 1.8C warmer than preindutrial levels.

Look at the lack of wear! Is that band really 40 years old? I gotta wonder

This total madness happening to the 40,000,000 km² of the North Atlantic Ocean surface is getting worse, as we expected. Many are still in denial. But we are all finding out together as we go.

Been working on marine heatwaves for over 10 years now and always thought they would never be ecologically impactful in the cool waters around uk and ireland but this is unprecedented and possibly devastating
One of the most severe marine heatwaves on Earth has developed off the coast of Ireland and the UK, with water temperatures as high as 4-5°C above normal. NOAA's Marine Heatwave Watch has categorized this event as a Category 4 (extreme) marine heatwave.

Decoupling of economic growth from CO2 emissions. The question is, can we do it fast enough?

This article was written 110 years ago. 110 years and we still aren't doing what we need to do to address the climate crisis. No time to wait. Let's make 2023 the year we #ActOnClimate #Climate #energy #ClimateEmergency #renewables #GreenNewDeal.

The global oceans are extraordinarily warm right now--so much so that the *margin* by which current records are being broken is itself record-breaking. That is even more remarkable as #LaNina has just faded, and #ElNino is only now beginning to influence ocean sfc temperatures.
This is getting ridiculous. OISST provides a real-time daily index of ocean surface temperature (60 S - 60 N). For the last month it has been continuously reading higher than in any previous year and still shows no sign of settling.
