Support her or not, but we can afford to be a bit more nuanced when discussing one of Bernie's most prominent black 2016 organizers, who voluntarily associated with DSA and opposed Cuba's embargo despite serious political (and personal) risk. Especially days before the election.

I suggest members of DSA leadership listen to the entire response before calling their own comrades bootlickers. Angie Nixon immediately pivots to wanting to end the embargo.
Heather Hutt is a disgrace for a lot of reasons. One of them is that she's just anti-fun and lame as fuck. Banning more karaoke rooms???? Okay how about we tackle the massive amounts of illegal AirBnBs or smth
This is better than a lot of his other movies
Shawn Levy's 'GHOST RIDER' film will reportedly be split into three acts.
Audiences can expect "A beginning, a middle, and an ending."

Our power on every terrain (including electoral) comes from our ability to organize majorities into mass campaigns that win, not from statements. But when electeds are only organized to support our demands with the threat of unendorsement, we validate this negative approach

I've been in some group chats and meetings with DSA-LA folks this campaign. They have been busting their asses for months to help get Nithya elected because they know she's the best candidate for Mayor. This is an insult to them and a ridiculous move the week before an election.
NEW: DSA's National Political Committee passed two resolutions tonight regarding Los Angeles mayoral candidate Nithya Raman, setting up processes to potentially force DSA's Los Angeles chapter to rescind its endorsement of her campaign and/or expel her from DSA.
Here are copies of the 2 resolutions that passed:

About last night:
Our members are disillusioned to see how their sincere and heartfelt desire to achieve Palestinian liberation is being manipulated by leaders for personal aims and ambitions.
Our org is suffering as a result.

i have criticized DSA-LA’s actions, but what the NPC majority bloc is doing by pretending nithya’s latest statements aren’t R22 compliant is an existential threat to the whole party. it nothing short of ignoring plain text rules for might-makes-right factionalism.

Important to join SocialistMajority.com if youre tired of this nonsense. Like 90%+ of DSA members agree with the good politics that oppose being this goofy but the ultras have disproportionate number of ppl who care about sending ppl to convention- we can end this together
One of the ppl running for NomCom in LA literally got caught trying to rig their YDSA election lmaooo

Nithya Raman has been criticized by DSA members for not supporting BDS. She now says "I believe the best way for working Angelenos to stand in solidarity with Gaza is through non-violent protest, legislative action, and diplomatic pressure, including BDS."
Replying to @petersterne
Los Angeles mayoral candidate Nithya Raman sent the following statement to DSA-LA explaining her position on BDS, which in turn was shared with DSA's National Political Committee:
Over the last couple of years, I have come to believe strongly that Israel is committing a genocide in Gaza, and I have felt deeply uncomfortable with US tax dollars funding this atrocity.
In November 2023, I was the first councilmember to recognize the lives lost in Palestine by adjourning a council meeting in honor of those killed in Gaza. Several months later, I called for an investigation into LAPD's violent response to the encampments and protests at USC and UCLA, noting that it is "incumbent upon the City to be transparent and accountable to Angelenos about how their safety and civil rights are being protected, and for that protection to be equally provided regardless of one's politics, identity and protected free speech."
And in June 2024, I co-authored the Los Angeles ceasefire resolution to ask that "the City joins the call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire, the immediate and unconditional return of all hostages, and the safe and immediate passage of unhindered humanitarian aid and medical care to Gaza; and ... that the City will not tolerate any form of harmful and racist language, especially antisemitic, anti-Palestinian, and Islamophobic hate speech toward anyone; and ... that the City supports peaceful diplomacy and an end to the conflict that honors all peoples' right to dignity, safety, and justice."
I believe the best way for working Angelenos to stand in solidarity with Gaza is through non-violent protest, legislative action, and diplomatic pressure, including BDS. As mayor, I will continue to protect the right of all people to engage in peaceful protests and would continue to oppose any policy or city legislation imposing penalties on the constitutional right to protest against or criticize any nation. Generations of Angelenos do not want their tax dollars to go toward endless wars when they are struggling to make rent, find housing, afford healthcare, and find stable work.

BREAKING: The DSA NPC announces that Nithya Raman has sent an email to DSA-LA specifying her affirmative support for BDS as a non-violent tactic that Americans can use to support Palestinian liberation.
Both the resolutions to unendorse and to expel should be dead in the water.

NEW: @nithyavraman’s campaign has filed ethics complaints accusing a @KarenBassLA-backed super PAC of using an AI clone of Raman’s voice to deceive LA voters.
The campaign alleges callers can have live conversations with an AI version of Raman without being told it’s artificial intelligence or who’s funding the operation.

Yes, if Turek's position becomes an acceptable Dem mainstream, then it would be entirely reasonable to say the party has abandoned trans people. It would no longer be hyperbole. It should not become the norm

The first time I was a delegate to NYC-DSA convention was 2022. It's the very heart of DSA's democracy.
And this year, I’m voting for the Socialist Majority slate. Vote by Sunday night: vote.socialistmajority.com/n…
