Food is very gendered in Japan, both types and portions. Tbf probably based it off what women and men commonly order and made a package but still. Once at an okonomiyaki restaurant ran by a Japanese man, bless his heart he explained portion sizes as "could feed a woman/men"🫠

Men and women do not have different calorie intake needs. The real differentiator is height, activity and muscle mass. A guy that is shorter than I and does not exercise is not gonna have higher intake needs than me. I eat more than some of the guys that were at that table.
