One day this can take two seconds. Or it can be like today and take going on 20 minutes. FML. ACAD Roulette. IYKYK
As real as it gets. Only in my case, it's a daughter.
Every GOP strategist, consultant, and candidate should be forced to participate in a role-playing exercise this morning.
Your name is Bob. You’re a 49-year-old blue-collar worker in Ohio. You’ve always struggled to make ends meet. The good jobs were all shipped to China and the few remaining pay a pittance wage, undercut by endless illegal labor.
You’re a 3x Trump voter because you believed he would finally make America great again.
You put your son through Ohio State. He graduated cum laude in computer science. You couldn’t have been prouder. After months searching, he landed an entry-level job at Microsoft. Beneath his qualifications, but a good start for a smart kid.
Then he got laid off. That same month, Microsoft applied for 150,000 more H-1B visas because it can’t find qualified Americans.
Your son has spent six months back in his childhood bedroom, sending hundreds of applications without landing an interview.
On TV, Trump boasts about the greatest economy in history and how many women and minorities are finding jobs.
You decide a father-son steak night might cheer him up.
Gas is $4.50 a gallon. Filling your truck costs over $100. At Kroger, ribeyes are $30/lb. You settle for hamburger, even though 70/30 ground beef still costs $10+.
At checkout, a fat black woman is screaming at the cashier because her EBT will only cover most of the filet mignon and lobster in her cart.
You think to yourself how the Iran war has made everything expensive, but at least we’re stopping their nuclear bomb. You weren’t even sure where Iran was before you googled it after we first bombed them in March.
After dinner, you take your son to the county fair. Half the people aren’t speaking English. Virtually none of the crowd looks like you. You’re forced to leave early after a “teen takeover” turns violent. A foreign born judge pledges none of them will go to jail.
Back home, you turn on the TV. Vivek Ramaswamy is lecturing the crowd about American mediocrity and why Ohio needs more foreign talent.
Your son grows upset. You change the channel.
Now a Republican surrogate, the daughter of a governor or wife of an elderly billionaire, explains that young White men are the REAL welfare queens. They’d rather play videogames in their parents’ basements than work.
Your son says nothing. He just goes back to his childhood bedroom. You turn off the TV.
Then your neighbor starts blasting reggaeton and cracking open Modelos. He brought his cousin’s family from Mexico to help with all the minority-business contracts his construction firm keeps winning. Tonight they’re celebrating his nephew’s birth, the family’s first birthright American citizen.
You sit alone in your living room.
You worked hard, paid taxes, obeyed the law, and raised your son to do everything right. You voted Republican again and again because you believed somebody in Washington would finally fight for you.
Instead, your wages are stagnant. Groceries are unaffordable. Your community is unrecognizable. Your country is fighting another foreign war.
And upstairs, the son you sacrificed everything for is lying awake in the bedroom he slept in at twelve, wondering what the heck he’s even supposed to do with his life now.
Every time you turn on the TV, the Republicans you elected are either congratulating themselves or explaining why you and your son are the problem.
For ten years, they told you America’s future depended on your vote. Now you aren’t even sure America has a future worth defending.
The Republican Party needs to answer one simple question this morning:
You’ve spent a decade demanding Bob’s loyalty. You’ve given him stagnant wages, unaffordable groceries, another foreign war, and a son who did everything right but can’t find work.
And when they complain, you call them lazy, entitled, and racist.
What possible reason have you given Bob and his son to vote Republican? Do you honestly think you deserve their vote?

If you are having trouble trying to wrap your head around what happened in Texas and Nevada last night, let me help explain it for you.
In 2024 alone, roughly 77,000 people moved from California to Texas. That same year, about 53,000 moved from California to Nevada.
Those two states just delivered some of the biggest Democratic wins of the night.
James Talarico flipped the U.S. Senate seat and became the first Democrat to win a Texas Senate race since 1988
Gina Hinojosa defeated Greg Abbott and became the first Democratic governor of Texas in decades
Aaron Ford defeated incumbent Republican Joe Lombardo and flipped the governor’s office.

The champagne is flowing, Democrats are celebrating like they just inherited the fucking country, and the Republican establishment is lying face-down in the political mud, having apparently decided that defending its own majority was just too goddamn exhausting. The battlefield is littered with broken promises, squandered opportunities, and the rotting carcass of Republican leadership.
And those spineless motherfuckers have nobody to blame but themselves.
Republicans controlled the White House, the House, and the Senate. They had the power, the mandate, and millions of Americans demanding results. Instead, we got legislative paralysis, procedural circle jerks, and gutless bureaucrats explaining why passing the legislation they campaigned on was apparently more complicated than splitting the fucking atom.
And now Democrats are celebrating their return to power while Americans are left staring at the wreckage.
Think the consequences end with an election-night ass-kicking? Wake the fuck up.
Democrats have already been discussing accountability for Trump administration officials. Elissa Slotkin and Mark Kelly have publicly raised the specter of military personnel facing consequences for obeying unlawful orders. The constitutional distinction between legitimate prosecution and politically motivated retaliation is deadly serious, and anyone who thinks partisan zealots should be trusted blindly with that distinction is a goddamn fool.
Meanwhile, Republican leadership spent its precious time perfecting the fine art of political masturbation. Endless meetings. Endless excuses. Endless fucking surrender.
History is overflowing with examples of governments that discovered how conveniently the machinery of justice could be turned against political enemies. The process begins when institutions abandon their principles, ambitious politicians discover the intoxicating pleasure of punishing opponents, and frightened officials convince themselves that keeping their careers matters more than protecting constitutional rights.
And what did the Republican establishment do with its opportunity to strengthen those protections?
Fuck all.
They squandered it. They pissed away the mandate. They handed their opponents an electoral victory and now expect the same voters they betrayed to listen patiently while they explain why their spectacular incompetence was everybody else's fault.
To hell with that.
Americans entrusted these political cowards with enormous power because they believed their constitutional freedoms, their country's future, and the rule of law were worth fighting for.
Apparently, Republican leadership had more important fucking things to do.
Here's the nightmare these incompetent bastards helped create: constitutional protections are only as strong as the institutions and officials willing to enforce them.
And when those entrusted with defending those protections surrender their responsibilities, the people who inherit power get to discover just how far the boundaries can be pushed.
The Democrats are raising champagne glasses. Republican leadership is preparing another pile of excuses.
And the Constitution is left standing in the wreckage, surrounded by the political corpses of the cowards who fucking swore to defend it.

We Asked AI To Show America Without Republicans
The White House has all the resources of the world that us entrepreneurs could only dream of. And they still screw things up. Don’t take it so hard when you screw up. Learn from it.
How you handle adversity is a function of your success.
You will encounter adversity. How you handle it will decide your move forward.
One of the things the data analysts on our side obsessed over was "composition"—whether the electorate looked close enough to 2024 for Republicans to win. And despite polls that showed a Democrat blowout, the data kept on telling us the same story: in some states turnout was merely OK, in other states it was downright amazing, and in no state was it catastrophic. There was a genuine sense of optimism on our team: our people were showing up.
So, I asked the smartest data guy I know, does that mean we're going to shock the world? "No," he told me. "We might do better than the polls suggest. But the data is telling us that a lot of Trump/Vance 2024 voters are pissed and planning to vote for the other guys. Our voters are turning out, but they may not vote for us."
Well, that looks prophetic now. Our voters did show up. In Florida, for example, the electorate was 9 points more Republican than Democrat, just a couple points worse than 2024. Undoubtedly there were places we could have done better on turnout. But the main problem is not turnout. The main problem is that many people who voted for Trump/Vance in 2024 voted for Democrats in 2026.
There will be a lot of infighting and arguing over what happened and why that is. One of the pollsters I really respect told me that our economic messaging wasn’t sharp enough down the stretch. I’m sure that’s true.
But the real reason we lost is obvious to almost everyone.
Another pollster—one of the smartest people I know in politics, told me yesterday we’d lose the generic ballot by 13 points. I felt negative going into Tuesday, but even I was shocked by this. In his polling, he saw that a lot of Trump 2024 voters were angry and planning to vote for Democrats. He asked those voters who had abandoned us what would cause them to come back on our team. The top four answers, accounting for nearly all of the responses were:
1) End the war
2) Focus on cost of living/inflation
3) Put America First
4) Change our relationship to Israel
Our voters showed up. And the above four reasons are why many of them voted for Democrats. This is according to a pollster who nailed the results. While many spent Monday attacking Rachel Campos Duffy for calling for a diplomatic resolution to the conflict, it turns out her political advice was sound. (She’s also a great person.)
In the next few months, there's going to be a lot of gaslighting. Expect to hear any number of establishment politicians say the solution to our woes is amnesty. I'm open to the idea that we should change enforcement—by focusing more on businesses that hire illegal labor, for instance. But anyone pushing amnesty is lying to you.
The reason we lost is the war. The president himself said so last night.
If you'd like to argue it was worth it, that losing the Senate for the next 6 years was worth it, then do so. Argue it was a worthwhile cost to pay. Agree or disagree, that's at least honest.
But everyone knows why we lost. And any honest conversation about where we go from here must start there.
I remain hopeful about our country. To the people who are pissed off and want to say, “I told you so”: you’re right, you did tell us so. Take that energy into electing Republicans who share your worldview. To the people who are just pissed at the results, you should be. Let’s take that anger and get back to the work of saving our country.

With the loss of governors races in Texas, Ohio and Georgia, there will be only one state of the top ten most populous states with a Republican governor:
Florida.

If you own a copy of UNELECTED and you’re distressed about tonight - skip to the last two chapters for a white pill.
Power is not about who has more red flags or blue flags. Power is something that’s exercised above, through, and around Congress. Their monopoly on power depends on not noticing how the true game is played.
Congress turns over every 2 years. But the people who build the institutions that persist past Congress are the true wielders of power.
My prayer is that if there’s a silver lining from tonight, we realize our path to survival is through understanding where the levers of power really are, and it’s not by voting one party label harder.
You, too, are the “unelected.” There’s nothing stopping us from safekeeping a Constitutional Republic.
