The defend democracy crowd quickly moves to vanquish the institutions and procedures that protect our democratic republic. Gabe here forgets that Ds wont have a majority forever.

Some higher-ed good news: Clemson is launching a new department based on the Great Books, with up to 120 scholarships a year and a Socratic tutor for each student. C. Bradley Thompson reports on The Lyceum—and on profs putting teaching first again: city-journal.org/article/cle…

Voting in Washington, D.C., in 2026:
- Go to polling place.
- Watch a poll worker accept a screenshot on someone's phone as proof of residency.
- Get looked at like you're crazy for requesting a paper ballot.
- Be forced to participate in the farce that is ranked-choice voting.
- Have the sole ballot initiative be a vote on the prohibition of the sale of foie gras.
- Receive a sticker that says "Yo voté."
What. A. Joke.

“This is the We Told You So World Series. We’ve said strikeouts will kill you. That pitchers need to throw more strikes. That you have got to run the bases better. You got to bunt. You got to hit and run. Play solid defense. You got to do all the baseball things to help you win”

This is THE movie of the year for dads to watch with our kids. If it’s half as good as the book, it’s going to be sensational.
I love that @jockowillink stars as the MMA coach!
Yes but in their defense, who could have guessed theyd need the facilities that make the stuff that makes modern life possible? These are difficult connections to see a few years down the road.

Imagine that. Harvard is reinventing a great books college. And the students do really want to put down the phones and pick the classics up.
“A lot of what we get out of this class is the human experience, and you can’t get that out of AI,” said Peggy Urdan, a government and neuroscience major from Lexington, Mass. “The only way to get anything out of this class is to not use AI.”

Finally something good out of Austin.
Tomorrow we're releasing a full UATX course for free: all 19 lectures of Professor Isabella Reinhardt's Rise and Fall of Ancient Rome, filmed in class with our students.
It runs from Rome's mythical founding to the Third Century Crisis. It ends on a question the class spent a whole session arguing about: did Rome ever really fall?
One thing I'll never get about pro sports is why they offer massive contracts on hype. Daniels is a good player. He had a good rookie season. He's not even in the convo on top 5 QBs this season. So why does he become the highest paid player? Be he *might* be good soon?
