A private prison company offered Minnesota an empty prison for 75 million dollars. The state said no. Then Trump’s administration paid the same company almost 500 million for it. The prison has sat empty in Appleton, Minnesota since 2010. Last year CoreCivic emailed the state and offered to sell it for 75 million, upgrades included. Minnesota passed. Fifteen months later, Homeland Security bought it for an ICE detention center at 495.6 million. How could this be? You guessed it. CoreCivic gave half a million dollars to Trump’s inaugural committee. And it still gets paid about 75 million a year to run the place. Republicans love talking about fraud in Minnesota. JD Vance says his task force is all over it. So where are they on this one? I break it all down in today’s show (link in reply).

Note one thing, something I also said mid-thread. This is only one of many areas the fight for political dominance over Poland is ongoing. Some things may also have roots in early 90's, late 90's, PRL times or the death of Lech Kaczyński in 2010 in Russia. Overall, gigantic mess.
Poland in 2026. A house divided. In 2023, PIS government lost power after 8 years. Eight years of changes which if called controversial would be an understatement, encompassing all areas of life. One of them is the chief of Constitutional Order - the Constitutional Tribunal. 🧵

We are launching a new Alliance for the Future — a partnership that will bring together Canada, the EU, and other like-minded nations to address common issues and build our collective strength.

Economist (and Nobel laureate) Paul Krugman: “Control of Starlink must, one way or another, be taken away from Elon Musk. It’s a matter of national security: we cannot let private individuals make foreign and defense policy, and it would be totally irresponsible to leave a crucial military asset in the hands of a racist, authoritarian conspiracy theorist.” paulkrugman.substack.com/p/i…

UPDATE!! The U.S. Patriot PAC-3 announcement comes with a major caveat: these are new missiles, with deliveries not expected until after 2030, sources tell me. It does little to address Ukraine’s urgent interceptor shortage ahead of winter 1/3
BREAKING!!! State Department has approved a possible $2.1 billion sale of 500 Patriot PAC-3 MSE missiles to Ukraine. The deal will be funded entirely by allies and partners, including Canada, Germany and Norway — with no U.S. taxpayer funds involved.

The new President of the Constitutional Tribunal has assumed authority; the Gordian knot has been untied. A stalemate regarding the rule of law had emerged, in which neither political side—neither the executive branch nor the opposition—was able to make a decisive move on the chessboard. In this situation, the Prime Minister, acting on behalf of the executive branch and backed by a parliamentary majority, exercised his mandate to facilitate the election of a new President of the Constitutional Tribunal. The executive branch possesses greater practical power, as it is the body that governs. The former President of the Constitutional Tribunal has attempted a counterattack by invoking the principle of pluralism, yet these efforts have proven largely ineffective; he lacks the support of the majority of voters—the voice of the people—which determines the composition of the government led by the Prime Minister. Democracy—derived from the words *demos* (the people) and *kratos* (power/rule)—signifies that it is the people who elect the authorities, who in turn serve as their voice and representatives.

Love that my dream of a fighting democracy of steel is being realized in Poland. Pushovers in old Europe should take note: this is how you fight for your country. You don't let the wound fester, and you don't nurse a viper in your bosom. Eastern Europe represents the vitality of our continent.
