Lauren Boebert’s campaign said the smoke in the Denver theater came from the stage fog machines. Then the security footage came out, showing her vaping, her date’s hand on her chest, and ushers walking her out of a family show of Beetlejuice. Three years later, she is trailing in one of the safest Republican seats in Colorado. In the video below, the cameras show what her campaign denied. A pregnant woman sitting behind her told The Denver Post she asked Boebert to stop vaping, and Boebert refused. The theater’s incident report says that on the way out she asked, “Don’t you know who I am?” Before the footage was released, Boebert joked online that she would “plead guilty to laughing and singing too loud.” After it came out, she apologized and blamed her pending divorce. Later she sat down with Denver anchor Kyle Clark. “It’s been reported that I flipped someone off, and I did not.” Then: “I’m apologizing for you, Kyle Clark, getting footage and releasing that.” In 2024, she moved to a safer district on the Eastern Plains and won. On November 3, she faced Eileen Laubacher, a Navy veteran of 34 years. Three days later, Laubacher led by 2,513 votes, the race had not been called, and Boebert’s campaign was pointing to “unusual voting patterns.” Was it the night at the theater that cost her, or three years of denying what the cameras showed?
