The Victorian State election is 1 month today. So here's a completely unscientific #springst poll. Who do you think your NEIGHBOURS will vote for? (max of four choices available - would have liked more)
39%Labor
33%Liberal or National
20%Green or other left
9%One Nation or other right

If everyone on NYC mass transit switched to driving: ~1.28B trips/yr → 24/7 gridlock. Drivers already waste $9.5k/yr sitting in traffic (~$15k in Manhattan). Transit isn’t subsidized by drivers, transit is the only thing that makes driving possible. 🚇🚗💸

More Green NIMBYism. Stop voting for these rank hypocrites
Inner West Greens are hosting a meeting to “force a grassroots planning process” on a DA to replace ten $3m houses with 156 apartments near the new Dulwich Hill Metro station.

I fear next week's Twitter cabbie meltdown over Oxford Street's pedestrianisation will be apocalyptic. In 3 months' time, no one will care and will wonder why it wasn't done years ago Remember the outrage when they removed cars from Trafalgar Square? Aldwych? Now, no one cares

Deregulate quantity, not quality.
Replying to @hecubian_devil
The way NIMBYs throw the word "deregulation" around you'd think the main fight in housing was over bringing back asbestos insulation instead of whether a single-family homeowner should be able to build an apartment building under a basically otherwise unchanged regulatory regime

If you’re a member of the Liberal party you should write to your MPs to ask what’s going on here. Adding apartment buildings around the three(!) new Metro stations in the Drummoyne electorate shows “contempt” for it apparently.

Hopefully this is the start of a lot pf sensible and much needed upgrades to the existing rail network. Much of which was neglected under the previous government

A reminder that Sydney's just opened secondary airport is beating Melbourne Airport on PT access to surrounding suburbs. More, including a plan to better connect Melbourne Airport, here: melbourneontransit.blogspot.… #springst

Calling a corrugated iron shed in a Geelong sheep paddock a 'competing international airport' is elite levels of Melbourne cope

Western Sydney International Airport, Day One. Most of the developed world and the Anglosphere in particular have lost the ability to build mega projects. May Australia never fall into that degrowth trap.

My reasons re-tweeting: 1. ❤️ @metrodesantiago 2. Improving PT isn’t the terrain of only ‘progressives’. Hell, in Chile even a dictatorship thought it important 3. Since opening, it’s still dev: 7 lines + 2 in dev 4. Why such little commitment to improving PT in Vic? #SpringSt

University Avenue during rush hour. Better rip out those bike lanes and relieve the horrendous traffic.

Car-first metro growth scales unbelievably smoothly up to ~5M people, but as the 60-90min commute zone bogs down, you end up wishing you'd chosen more balanced growth + road pricing Most US cities aren't on track to grow that big, but the ~dozen that do are super important
Purely auto based commuting networks do seem to allow for larger commute sheds and scale up to about 5 mil workers; remote work and AVs probably allow you to push that up further nber.org/system/files/workin…

NIMBYs join forces to fight 34 social homes for homeless women and children in Maryborough. How exactly would giving them veto power improve the lives of Victorians?

By all means keep canceling projects and building busways.
New data has revealed Brisbane motorists are crawling along major highways at just 28km/h in a daily peak hour nightmare 🚗🚙🚗 Search your commute: bit.ly/4eIyqTY
