also why do some people see reading diversely as a chore that “sucks the fun out of reading”?? why do some people think reading books by bipoc can’t possibly be enjoyable???

i want more fantasy books with black women at the center. i don’t care how many there are now, i want MORE. and i want publishing and people to care about them like they care about their favorite fantasy books that have basically zero black ppl in them.

This is Banned Books Week and I’m marking it by reading excerpts from banned books. Today: Beloved by Toni Morrison.

does anyone else actually spend time trying to coordinate their goodreads and storygraph accounts like it's some admin job or do you have a life?

My last read for this week is Everfair by Nisi Shawl, a Black, speculative, steampunk novel that reimagines the colonial history of the DRC. Perfect to end off BiFuriousAthon and kickstart Black History Month 🙌🏾

Things publishing professionals have told me “don’t sell.”
-scifi
-clifi
-political fic
-trans romance
-neopronouns
-indie press books
Guess what scifi clifi polemic, feat. a trans LI who uses neopronouns, out with an indie press, just became a USA TODAY BESTSELLER?!? 🖕😘

one thing about me is i’ll always love an angry love confession. when they’re just hurling angry words at each other and one of them demands “WHY” and the other finally breaks down and yells “BECAUSE I LOVE YOU” then there’s a painfully tense and heated silence—
