📽 If you haven't done so already, I recommend listening to this interesting interview with the former Trading Director of @Pinnacle (the bookmaker par excellence for professional bettors), Marco Blume. In it, Marco explains how the betting market works, how their traders operate, how they set their odds, etc. Part 1⃣: youtube.com/watch?v=8VpaC-4q…… Part 2⃣: youtube.com/watch?v=U529G_PR… I have prepared a summary of the most important points: • Their traders have shifted more from the manual work to working with the automation of machines. The tools of the trade have changed quite dramatically. • They split their traders into several groups, categorized by sport. On live games one trader can be assigned to one match only. • What do they look for in a trader? That he likes punting, Maths, Statistics, people who likes risk in some form, who don't think so much in black and white but more in probabilistic terms. • The core of the market is formed by machines. The reason is not so much that their punters couldn't do it but that they couldn't keep up with the large amount of games they offer. • Their punters play a big role in the high level markets, such as the NFL, NBA, Premier League or La Liga. • He doesn't want their traders to compund on mistakes because something bad has happened. • He doesn't want their traders to have strong opinions on the game. It's not good to try to fight the market. • The Pinnacle closing line is possibly the best estimation about the true price. • Betting exchanges have a very efficient market, however most of the time the traditional exchange follows the traditional bookmaking. Pinnacle is very influential on markets like Betfair. • Pinnacle do not limit winning bettors. They pay for information, they try to optimize their line with the pro punters' info. • Esports: 30 people are working for them. It’s they 4th big sport.
