A statistic that sounds fake but isn't: Not one single white American man born after 1984 has published a work of literary fiction in The New Yorker.
It's not because they stopped writing. It's because The New Yorker has refused to publish them. The publishing industry has blacked out a generation of male writers & then they wonder why boys don't read.
About 70% of publishing professionals are women.
Because agents and editors tend to select books they personally relate to, an increasing number of male authors are being sidelined in the publishing industry, resulting in an overwhelming number of female protagonists on our shelves—and a dearth of male ones.
No wonder young men are no longer reading.

There’s this extraordinary Bret Easton Ellis podcast ep from 2021 where he talks about how he’s completely alone wherever he goes but it doesn’t matter bc he can always tinker on the novel in his head. How he can always go back to the novel. Highly recommend listening to it.
On Johnny Cash and his favourite books.
'His home library was expansive, and he proudly claimed to have read every book in it - some more than once ... One of the most touching moments came when Cash was asked about 'The Grapes of Wrath.' His reply: 'Know that book? I was that book.''

Eu cantarolava "I guess you wonder where I've beeeennnn..." enquanto pegava um sassami no freezer.
