Tom Hiddleston says happiness is overrated and spending your life chasing it can actually make you unhappy "Happiness is overrated. Meaning is underrated. Happiness is like a sunrise or a sunset. Bear with me" "You're there. It's lovely. You're present with it. The sun's rising or the sun is setting. It's perfect. After 15 minutes, the moment is over and it's gone. Trying to sustain it is impossible because it's over" "And a life spent chasing the permanence of that feeling will make you unhappy because you can't hold on to it. The moment you try to hold on to it, it slips through your fingers and is lost" "Meaning is a structure that only you create in your own life, an architecture with your own particular spiritual fingerprint, whereby if you're going through a hard time, if you're going through challenge, struggle, obstacles, suffering or pain, only you know why you're going through it" "You might know, this is hard now. I'm doing it for my kids. I'm doing it for my mom. I'm doing it for my future" "And then it makes enduring the hard times bearable because you know what it means" "And meaning - this is the take - meaning yields joy. Joy is deeper than happiness"

if gen ai disappeared tomorrow my life would be impacted heavily; my entire industry would bloom once again, the arts would prosper, im getting excited by the mere fantasy of it
that one guy who was like "people who hate generative ai, what would you do if it disappeared tomorrow?" and everyone was like "bro nothing in my life would be negatively affected" like the average person who can think independently ISNT USING GENERATIVE AI!!!

This has always been one of the wildest videos in existence to me. The peace and tranquility, birdsong in the background and water crashing being interrupted by the most destructive force we’ve ever created is such a perfect metaphor for our effect on the natural world

I don’t even look at design anymore. I just wrote “do good taste stuff” in a markdown file and gave it to an agent. It’s currently spending three months in Japan on my behalf. It visits museums, digs through old magazines, and has life changing conversations with people who make chairs and an 88 year old guy named Torakichi who makes fountain pens. Every night it updates the file so I know what kind of person I am becoming. Apparently the last three days in Kyoto completely changed how I think about layout. I found out about this "new me" from a notification I got while in a Costco parking lot eating a chicken bake. There’s a second agent turning these experiences into posts about how important it is to get off the computer and experience the world to become truly inspired. A third agent is deciding which of my friends I’ve outgrown. I get a notification when someone is no longer part of my journey. If you're reading this you're probably on that list. Yesterday a book arrived in the mail. I liked the cover. I just picked it up and thought it looked nice. It felt good. My smart home alarm went off and my agent told me to put the book down. According to my agent I shouldn't be wasting my time on X. But this is the new way of designing. If you're not on board you will get left behind. I love it.

The most frustrating thing about generative AI is that nobody was asking for it. We had a perfectly functioning world before it came along and instead of making life better, it feels like it’s actively making so many things worse. What exactly have we gained?

Dear companies: never have I ever interacted with an AI customer service (chat bot, phone answering bot, etc) and come away feeling anything less than rage at its incompetence. They literally never help me and I usually end up begging multiple times for it to let me talk to a human. Please bring the humans back.

Is AI making life better? NO. Is it making things cheaper? Quite the opposite. Is it improving the internet? It’s drowning it in slop. Is it giving us more time to be creative? It’s stealing that too. Surely it’s making us smarter, though? Ohhhh, you won’t believe this…

you’re hiding RAM under the floor board aren’t you?
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman believes people owning RAM is wasteful, and that it belongs in data centers instead. "From a global allocation perspective, actually, it’s quite terrible to have everyone have a bunch of the world’s limited supply of DRAM sitting in their own computer."

We’ve raised $1.3M from YC & Afore Capital so you never have to type or speak again. Typing is slow. Talking into your computer is awkward. Subvocal fixes both Our glasses give you the speed of speech without you making a sound or touching a keyboard. these people didn't exist six years ago. I mean maybe they did but there wasn't such an exhausting array of them. Maybe Musk and the Facebook freak. Now there's so many and they're ruining everything and you have to keep seeing and hearing from them

The future of #ArtificialIntelligence is not pre-determined. As a technology developed by human beings, its future depends on the choices we make. We therefore have the responsibility to guide, change and, when necessary, reject its applications. A reliable system that serves the human person is of greater value than one that is exceptionally powerful but whose consequences cannot be adequately foreseen or controlled.

Dana Carvey watched Withnail and I while prepping Wayne’s World 2, got fixated on Ralph Brown’s spaced-out Danny, and wrote him into the movie. They treated it like a spiritual reprise, recreating the flat from Withnail, right down to the wallpaper.
