🦵🏾 THAT SWOLLEN LEG MAY NOT BE A SPIRITUAL ATTACK!
One of the most neglected tropical diseases in Nigeria is lymphatic filariasis, commonly known as elephantiasis.
Unfortunately, when someone develops persistent swelling of the legs, scrotum, breasts, or other parts of the body, it is sometimes attributed to spiritual attack, witchcraft, or other supernatural causes.
But here’s the science 👇🏾
🦠 Elephantiasis can be caused by parasitic worms called Wuchereria bancrofti, Brugia malayi, and Brugia timori. In Nigeria, Wuchereria bancrofti is the major cause.
🦟 How is it transmitted?
Through the bite of an infected mosquito. The mosquito picks up microscopic larvae from an infected person and can transmit them to another person during a subsequent bite.
Over time, repeated infection can damage the lymphatic system, causing chronic swelling and enlargement of affected body parts.
⚠️ And this is where the problem begins.
When people interpret the condition as a spiritual attack, they may delay going to a hospital or laboratory for proper evaluation and treatment.
Not every swollen leg is elephantiasis either. Heart disease, kidney disease, liver disease, blood clots, infections and other conditions can also cause leg swelling.
🔬 This is why medical evaluation matters.
A persistent or unexplained swelling should not automatically be labelled spiritual. See a qualified healthcare professional for proper assessment and appropriate laboratory investigations.
💡 The lesson:
Faith and medical care do not have to be enemies. You can pray while also seeking medical attention.
Let’s replace fear and misinformation with knowledge.
📌 Share this post. Someone may be living with a treatable condition and believing it is a spiritual attack.

It's easier to get admission into medical laboratory science than graduate or get internship.
Our council needs to do more for their graduates.
If you shit and dont flush, the shit will remain there. That shi(t) is shi gella ( Shigella). Shi(t)gella is non motile bacteria.
Seen Salmon fish? Meanders everywhere!! Salmon is salmonella, very motile bacteria!

TEST OF THE DAY
📍Sputum M/C/S (Microscopy, Culture & Sensitivity)
》 Sputum M/C/S is a laboratory test used to identify the microorganisms causing lower respiratory tract infections and determine the most effective antibiotic for treatment.
》Why is it requested? ✅ Persistent cough with sputum ✅ Suspected bacterial pneumonia ✅ Chronic chest infections ✅ Poor response to antibiotics
》For the best result: 🫁 An early morning, deep cough sputum sample is preferred—not saliva.
🔬 The laboratory will: • Examine the sample under the microscope (microscopy) • Grow any microorganisms present (culture) • Test which antibiotics are effective (Sensitivity)
💡 The quality of the sputum sample directly affects the accuracy of the result.
Have you done a sputum test before? – at Ituku, Nigeria

The MLSCN needs to do better when it comes to internship for their students. If you can't provide ample placements, then maybe they can go for NYSC while others who get placements serve... keeping people for years is unacceptable 📌
@MedLabNigeria do better.
