MND 30yr Fixed Mortgage Rate Index, mid-day update... now down to 7.32% vs 7.40% yesterday.
Lowest level since September 23rd.
MND 30yr Mortgage Rate Index Down to 7.36% from 7.40%.
Underwhelming move relative to bond market improvement. Lenders playing it safe on this rally.
I really enjoy talking to Mark. Straight shooter. Asks smart questions. Take a listen (especially if you're in the mtg biz) and help his channel grow like it deserves to!
What an intriguing conversation with @MG_MBS this week. Never a dull moment this year in the bond market. Today providing no exception. Huge thanks to Matt for sharing his insights with us. youtu.be/UkZFlUOc-6w?si=MPDD…
Another friendly reprice for mortgage rates. MND index now down to:
7.45%
(0.01 LOWER than yesterday and a new 3 week low).
Big round trip in mortgage rates with a few lenders very close to yesterday's 2 week lows. Avg lender a bit higher. After the forthcoming intraday update, MND 30yr fixed index:
7.50% (+0.04 d/d), down from 7.56% this morning.
Guess what!
Another mid-day revision and now mortgage rates are ending the week at 7.48% (MND 30yr fixed index).
This is down an eighth of a point from y'day morning and the lowest since September 25th.
Will be published soon on the site, but you heard it hear first!
Correct. It is "nothing." 2018 was initially an uptrend in rates owing to the tax bill, domestic econ strength, and Fed hike cycle. At the same time, we were growing tired of hearing "global growth concerns" on repeat. By the end of the year, momentum dried up, growth concerns showed up in the U.S., and the Fed stopped hiking. 2019's drop reflects the economic shift and U.S./China trade war. We can even trace mid-Nov bond rallies to specific Fed comments, such as Vice Chair Clarida saying rates were finally "very close to neutral." This is all basic and well-understood by the analytical community and had nothing to do with mid-terms.
A rare (though not so rare these days) SECOND intraday update for the MND rate index.
7.50% (-0.09)
Lowest since the morning of 10/2 and 2nd lowest since 9/25
Just published today's index. Surprisingly generous positive reprices kept us well under 7.7%.
Official number so far today: 7.63% (+0.07 vs y'day).
+0.02 vs previous high on Oct 5 of 7.61%.
UPDATE: Rates will still be higher, but TBD on sharpness. Lenders are already repricing for the better as bonds have rallied more than halfway back to unchanged.
Do I have this right, internet bond experts?
France up = US up
France down = US down
France up = US down
France down = US up
Mortgage rates aren't quite out yet for today, but there's no doubt that they'll result in today's 30yr fixed index moving sharply higher, likely over 7.7%.
thanks @Ctarizona for pointing out my fat finger. I wish I could say it was just a fat finger. I think at my age, my brain is still catching up to the 7% handle in the past 30 days after spending more than a year with a 6% handle.
Thank God someone said 7 things as opposed to suddenly realizing or repeatedly focusing on only one thing. People I consider true experts have very little to say about new causality this morning. Listing ongoing factors is about the best you can do.
Soaring bond yields continue to hit new highs. Seven things driving the moves
