Green finance must create value at home.
At NUST’s #ICFSB2026, keynote speaker Hon. Modestus Amutse put Namibia’s economic transformation in focus, while the UNRC @hphororo advanced the development test: investment must deliver jobs, innovation, local enterprise & better lives.
🌊How do you detect an underwater nuclear test explosion thousands of kilometres away?
Much of the answer lies in sound.
Sound travels extraordinary distances through the ocean, which is why the #CTBTO needs only 11 hydroacoustic stations to monitor the world’s big oceans. The signals they record help States Signatories distinguish a possible nuclear explosion from other ocean sounds, including those of undersea earthquakes.

During the continuation phase of an on-site inspection (#OSI), which can be requested by State Parties once the #CTBT enters into force, more detailed techniques are used to refine the findings. See how Visual Observation Techniques (VOB) help surrogate inspectors analyse what they see on the ground and support other inspection methods.
Once the #CTBT enters into force, State Parties can request and approve an on-site inspection (#OSI). In this short video, #IFE26 inspection team members show how one of the early‑stage inspection techniques is used during the initial period and how it helps them better understand what has happened on-site. 🔗ctbto.org/IFE26

Today, I engaged with Minister of @MIMEnamibia, Hon. Modestus Amutse on the strategic shift in the U.S.-Namibia partnership - focusing on strategic trade, investor-led development, capital deployment, and industrial resilience.
Our conversation focused on expanding U.S. investment in Namibia’s offshore oil and gas sectors while utilizing @DFCgov, @EximBankUS, and @USTDA to mobilize capital for critical mineral exploration and value-added industrial projects as well as infrastructure projects to bolster the Southern African energy corridor. Our dialogue also highlighted a mutual interest in civil nuclear energy energy, leveraging Namibia’s status as a top uranium producer to support a secure and diversified global energy mix.

Namibia to Showcase Investment Opportunities at Mining Indaba 2026
On 11 February 2026 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre, Namibia will present itself as a stable and investor-ready mining destination at the Investing in African Mining Indaba 2026, highlighting its vast reserves of critical and strategic minerals such as uranium, diamonds, lithium, rare earth elements, copper and graphite.
Mining remains a cornerstone of Namibia’s economy, driving growth, employment and industrial development.
Aligned with its long-term industrialisation strategy, the country is promoting both large-scale and emerging mining as part of an integrated pipeline for sustainable value creation and resilient mineral supply chains.
Backed by a predictable policy framework and a business environment trusted by global players including De Beers, B2Gold, Orano and CNNC, Namibia is seeking new investment and development partners.
The Namibian delegation, led by Deputy Minister of Industries, Mines and Energy, Gaudentia Kröhne, will host two investment-focused events: a mining project pitching session with Rand Merchant Bank and an official country showcase spotlighting regulation, geological potential and value addition opportunities.

Namibia’s Mining Sector Ends 2025 Strong, Outlook for 2026 Remains Positive
Namibia’s mining sector closed 2025 on a positive note, delivering stability and supporting national growth, exports, and fiscal strength.
The Chamber of Mines of Namibia said strong performance in gold and uranium, along with growing momentum in some base metals, helped cushion the impact of a prolonged downturn in the diamond market.
Chamber of Mines CEO, Veston Malango, highlighted that diversification remains key to the sector’s resilience, noting that while diamonds faced global pressure, uranium and gold reinforced the industry’s strategic value to the economy.
Global uncertainty, including geopolitical tensions and trade risks, continued to shape commodity markets. Gold remained a strong asset, while uranium prices stabilised with long-term demand supported by global nuclear expansion. Copper and tin strengthened, while lead weakened and zinc stayed subdued.
Looking ahead to 2026, the sector remains optimistic, supported by strong demand fundamentals and improved investment momentum.

Minister of Industries, Mines, and Energy Modestus Amutse is currently in Abu Dhabi, UAE, attending the 16th IRENA Assembly. During this event, Namibia concluded its role as Vice President of the 15th Session of the Assembly, representing the African Group.
At the Assembly, which wraps up today, Amutse delivered a general member statement on behalf of Namibia, reaffirming the country’s commitment to renewable energy and strategies that promote industrialisation, sustainable employment, and expanded energy access for all.
Amutse emphasised that Namibia’s energy transition is firmly rooted in renewable energy.
“As a country rich in world-class solar and wind resources, we have set a national target to achieve 70 percent renewable energy in our electricity mix by 2030. This goal is supported by intentional policy and regulatory reforms designed to attract investment,” he stated.
These reforms include the introduction of the Modified Single Buyer model, which has opened the electricity market to increased private sector participation while ensuring system stability and oversight.

The Ministry of Industries, Mines, and Energy held a consultative meeting with the Emerging Mining Association of Namibia (EMAN) on Wednesday to gather input and encourage collaboration on implementing beneficiation strategies for natural resources.
The meeting aimed to discuss how to strengthen Namibia’s mineral value chain.
During the meeting, the Minister of Industries, Mines, and Energy, Modestus Amutse, underscored the importance of early and ongoing engagement with key stakeholders in the mining sector.
He stressed that the effective and sustainable implementation of value addition to Namibia’s natural resources relies on practical input from those directly involved in the industry.
“The development of Namibia’s mining sector cannot be achieved by the government alone. It requires meaningful collaboration with stakeholders on the ground, whose practical experience is essential in shaping effective and responsive policies,” Amutse stated.
Furthermore, he expressed appreciation to EMAN for their submission, which outlined the challenges faced by emerging and small-scale miners in Namibia and provided proposals to enhance local participation in the mining value chain.
