Before Chandler Simpson last night, the last player with zero career homers to start a World Series game batting third was Chick Shorten, in 1916. (He would eventually hit 3 homers in his big league career.)
Shorten hit .571 in the 1916 WS, winning a championship with Boston!
Consider, for a moment, the age of the long ball: an era in which the leadoff man, the table-setter, the sparkplug, the pest, now swings from his heels at every pitch. He sends 50 baseballs into the seats each year and walks back to the dugout after strike three 200 times without shame or remorse. He hits .230, and no one asks him to apologize for it. This is the natural order now: three true outcomes, and nothing in between.
But in that liminal space between bleacher souvenirs and strike three, there lives a man named Chandler Simpson. Like a time traveler, he slaps the ball the other way, puts his head down, and runs. In his big league career, Simpson has hit exactly as many home runs as you have. Zero.
Now, on baseball's biggest stage, he bats third, a place once reserved for thunder. And for the first time in four generations, it belongs to a man who has none.
He doesn't know it yet, but Chandler Simpson has just stepped into the batter's box... of the Twilight Zone.

FIRST EVER Championship Series IN THE BOOKS! ⚾️
Huge shoutout to @MLBbrodotcom for giving me the opportunity to cover my first-ever National League Championship Series!
Definitely a bittersweet experience, as the Dodgers’ postseason run came to an end much sooner than expected after getting swept by the Milwaukee Brewers. While I wish I could’ve covered more games, being able to experience the atmosphere, interview players, and cover baseball at this level was an incredible experience that I’ll never take for granted.
The result wasn’t what Dodger Nation wanted, but the opportunity was one I’ll always appreciate. Every opportunity is another step forward, and I’m grateful to keep growing, learning, and doing what I love!
First NLCS down. More history to make. This is only the beginning! 🙏🏾🔥

The mission remains the same: 4 MORE WINS. 🏆🔥
Can the Dodgers take control of the series? 👀

If I’m playing GM for the Chicago White Sox this offseason, my first order of business is figuring out how to get BOTH Ozzie Albies and Luis Arraez to the South Side!
Two proven big league hitters who bring completely different skill sets but understand the art of putting together professional at-bats and PLAYING WINNING BASEBALL!
The young talent is already there. Now it’s time to surround those kids with proven veterans who know how to WIN!
At some point, potential has to turn into production, and adding guys like this is how you start closing that gap!

The Guardians acquired Jo Adell at the Trade Deadline hoping he could help their postseason push. He’s been exactly that.
He led Cleveland with 32 RBI after the trade and is hitting .273 with a 1.021 OPS this postseason.
His bases-clearing triple in Game 3 kept Cleveland alive.

We also have to get back to thinking low damage. All these hitting gurus have guys missing crazy underneath. Old school has and will always work. When you think swing down to finish up you get the result everyone’s looking for while also giving yourself a chance. Damage comes from making contact out front but your hitters have to know who they are, and have the approach to match.

I expect Aaron Judge to be on the ALDS roster
Leaving him off this roster essentially means you believe this Yankees team can go to the World Series without him
Huge decision coming tonight…
