The re-alignment of the A59 at Kex Gill has secured the final Government go-ahead.
A new 4km stretch of road will be created, replacing an existing part of the A59 which has been affected by the landslips.
Construction is set to begin in April.

A landmark day as minister @RicHolden MP gives final approval for the A59 Kex Gill realignment. This £69m project, delivered with @transportgovuk funding, is one of @northyorksc’s most ambitious ever highways schemes and will secure the future of this key east-west route.

Great news for bus users. 🚍
An ambitious bid to convert an entire #Harrogate bus fleet to electric vehicles has won @transportgovuk approval.
We're working with @harrogatebus to bring 39 zero-emission buses to the town over the next 3 years.

This trial by @northyorkscc of a camera continues. Two issues exist: adequate power which should be resolved as elsewhere by wind and solar. The transmission signal is greater challenge but our 5G MANY roll-out in that area should help.
Great news indeed @alextransdev. @northyorkscc looks forward now to partnership with @harrogatebus to electrify fleet.
Our path to zero emission continues with today’s announcement of funding for our partners @WestYorkshireCA & @northyorkscc. This would enable the introduction of 71 zero emission buses inc full electrification of @harrogatebus & @FlyerBuses fleets, plus #theShuttle @keighleybus.

I have asked @northyorkscc highways officers to brief me on feasibility of an uncontrolled crossing at this busy location adjacent to PoW Roundabout. I recognise current difficulties for pedestrians. Funding is in place for Wetherby Rd crossing at Slingsby Walk.
Replying to @MalcolmMargolis
@Mac1Don can you make this a priority please? Any further updates on the shared crossing for Wetherby Road and Oatlands Drive? @northyorkscc @AJonesMP
I’m not aware of such request to @northyorkscc about our funded Kex Gill scheme, which is a diversion of a problematic existing road which will be restored to nature. The new alignment will avoid threat of closure and environmentally damaging detour.
Would be interesting to know if @northyorkscc and @Mac1Don received a similar request and what impact it may have on road building schemes such as the proposals for A59 Alex Gill re-alignment?

Our crews will be #gritting roads in #NorthYorkshire overnight.
Road surface temperatures are expected to fall close to, or below zero, with the risk of ice, especially in the west where showers make the roads wet.
