Israeli settler terrorist Pinhas Shem Tov Ran erected a roadblock in the Nablus-area village of Aqraba last month and began checking Palestinians’ IDs without authorization. When a Palestinian man refused to comply, Ran shot at him and his 18-year-old daughter. Israeli police and the Shin Bet detained Ran at his home on October 11. Last Friday, he was charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent, an offense carrying a sentence of up to 20 years in prison, and obstruction of justice, which carries up to three years. Today, he was released to house arrest. This is state-backed terrorism.

Israel’s operation in Hebron has forced over 2,000 Palestinians from their homes. Collective punishment is a grave violation of international law, and threats to empty and erase entire neighbourhoods raise serious concerns about ethnic cleansing. ohchr.org/en/press-releases/…

The Israeli government formed at the end of 2022 was not merely a coalition of political convenience. It represented a convergence of interests, united by a common imperative: the removal of judicial restraints on the exercise of power. For Netanyahu, the destruction of judicial independence offered a path towards weakening the Court capable of holding him accountable, not least in relation to his own corruption trial. For his Likud colleagues and coalition partners Smotrich and Ben-Gvir, the same project offered an opportunity to entrench Jewish supremacy, consolidate permanent domination over Palestinians, and pursue territorial acquisition and dispossession without meaningful legal constraint. For the ultra-Orthodox parties, the bargain was different but no less consequential: the preservation of generous public subsidies, secured in exchange for sustaining a government committed to dismantling the constitutional restraints that might otherwise stand in its way. What began as an assault on judicial independence became something considerably more consequential. An increasingly permissive environment for the commission of atrocity crimes. In Gaza, this has been accompanied by a campaign of physical destruction on an unprecedented scale. In the West Bank, by entrenching annexation, dispossession, forced displacement and violence against Palestinians. The relationship between these developments is not merely chronological, following from October 23'. The weakening of domestic legal restraints and the intensification of unlawful conduct towards Palestinians are, in my assessment, constituent parts of the same political transformation. A State progressively freed from meaningful internal accountability is a State increasingly willing to disregard its obligations under international law. And yet, I believe we are still witnessing the beginning of this transformation, not its conclusion. The coming months may prove decisive. The foundations for the enduring, irreversible, entrenchment of Israel as a colonial tyranny are set by the entire spectrum of would-be governing parties. It would be comforting to believe that this is a temporary aberration, that the restoration of judicial independence alone would restore the rule of law, or that a change of government would necessarily reverse the direction of travel. I see little basis for such confidence. The structures of domination over Palestinians long predate the present coalition. What this government has done is to accelerate their consolidation, remove remaining inhibitions and expose the intimate relationship between authoritarianism within Israel and colonial domination beyond its recognised borders. None of this means that the future is predetermined. But change for the better will not simply follow from the passage of time, the holding of elections or the replacement of one political leadership with another. Politics is as much about hope as it is about power. But hope must not be confused with reassurance, still less with wishful thinking. There is no virtue in false hope, and no prospect of meaningful change founded upon a refusal to confront reality. Hope, if it is to have any political or moral significance, must begin with an unfiltered assessment of the facts and the interests at work. This is mine.

As Israel holds elections throughout its illegal settlements in the territories it occupies, a reminder of how the EU responds to Russia's holding of elections in the territories it occupies: clear condemnation, non-recognition of results, sanctions on everyone involved:

🇵🇸 I condemn in the strongest terms the attack by masked settlers in Taybeh, in the occupied West Bank, against Palestinians, our Consul General, French and Polish diplomats as well as catholic representatives. A French mayor was assaulted and a Belgian vehicle damaged. Our team is safe. Palestinians face this violence every day. Settlers also target journalists reporting on it and diplomats. Harvesting olives, reporting the news or carrying out diplomatic duties should never put anyone at risk of attack. As the occupying power, Israeli authorities must protect Palestinians, ensure the safety of diplomats and journalists, and bring those responsible to justice. Impunity for violent settlers must end. Belgium will continue to press for EU sanctions against those responsible for this violence and those who support them. This violence cannot be separated from Israel’s illegal settlement policy. Belgium condemns settlement expansion and attempts to forcibly displace Palestinians from their land. The occupation of the Palestinian territory must end. @BelgiumMFA @BelgiumJRS

Here, @BoardOfPeace, I helped you correct your statement.
A year ago, President Trump’s leadership ended a war that had no end in sight. Since then, a series of achievements have built the foundations for a new Gaza: an enduring ceasefire, the return of every hostage both living and deceased, the establishment of the Board of Peace and a Palestinian technocratic administration to run Gaza, and a fully costed recovery plan. This will be a long and arduous process, but we are making real progress.

The reality of the occupation exceeds the imagination: This morning, we arrived at the Israeli High Court of Justice for a hearing on a petition filed 10 months ago, demanding the lifting of movement restrictions on the Palestinian village of al-Mughayyir, which has been almost completely sealed off by settlers and soldiers for 3 years. Guess who couldn’t come to the hearing? Six residents of the village, the petitioners in the case, were granted permits to attend the hearing. But from 6:30 a.m. until 8:00 a.m., settlers blocked the only road out of the village. The hearing was scheduled for 9:00 a.m. Only one of the petitioners could make it to court. He had spent the night outside the village.

Non-stop mass expulsions, with the Israeli military using the “ceasefire line” as a tool to conquer more territory and confine survivors under unliveable conditions and without shelters.
🚨 “Where are we supposed to go?”: Israeli forces push the “yellow line” further into Gaza Displaced Palestinians are fleeing near Shujaiya intersection, east of Gaza City, after Israeli forces pushed the “yellow line” westward to within 10 meters of Salah al-Din Street, leaving residents inside the Israeli-occupied area. Drop Site contributor Mohamed Ahmed filmed families gathering their belongings and fleeing the camp. “There's nothing left for us to sleep on. Everything has been destroyed. They've devastated us,” Mohammed Al-Fayoumi said. “Where are we supposed to go? We flee west, and there's nowhere for us there. We flee east, and it's the same thing.” Anis Herzallah described the constant threat from Israeli military operations. “At night we have howitzers, quadcopters, tanks, Apaches and F-16s — all of them attacking us from the yellow line,” he said. “If we had somewhere else to take shelter, we wouldn't have come here.” “We're dying here every minute, every second,” Herzallah said. Osama Mushtaha said families had sought refuge in the camp because they had nowhere else to go, despite its lack of basic necessities. “The yellow line used to be approximately 200 meters away from us. This morning, it was only 10 meters away,” he said. 🎥 Mohamed Ahmed

“Jews have a right to everything before Arabs in this country,” an IDF soldier told Palestinians while blocking access to their own olive grove. Settlers, however, were allowed to stay. At least 14 Palestinians were wounded, and at least 7 were detained over the weekend. This is the second weekend of the olive harvest in the West Bank. For 80,000 to 100,000 Palestinian families, it provides a major of income. And for that very reason, the harvest is heavily targeted by settler terrorists and the IDF. In many areas of the West Bank, mostly near settlements, Palestinians are forced to obtain an IDF permit to reach their groves. The military often severely restricts access or denies it outright. Where permits aren’t required, settlers attack harvesters, and the IDF then comes in to back them up. Near Birzeit, a group of Palestinians and Rabbis for Human Rights activists came to harvest, only to be attacked with clubs by settler terrorists who had broken into the grove. The activists called the IDF, which allowed the terrorists to stay, but detained a Palestinian farmer and ordered all the harvesters to leave. Last week, the IDF explicitly warned olive grove owners that they would not be allowed to harvest their olives if solidarity activists were present. This is only one example of how settlers, terrorists, and the IDF work together to prevent Palestinians from harvesting their olives. Since the harvest began, @Yesh_Din has documented at least 109 incidents of settler violence directly related to the harvest in 75 localities across the West Bank. Settler terror, however, is only the tip of the iceberg. It is the IDF that plays the central role. The IDF not only protects settler terrorists, sometimes even as they steal olives or attack Palestinians right before soldiers’ eyes. It also maintains a permit system that makes harvesting nearly impossible for tens of thousands of Palestinian farmers. Attacks on the olive harvest are part of Israel’s broader policies of ethnic cleansing and annexation in the West Bank. Through terror and destroyed livelihoods, Palestinians are forced off their land. Since October 2023, over 4,700 Palestinians, roughly half of them children, have been displaced.
