Most of us will happily decorate our homes, dress our children, and host parties for Halloween. We’ll welcome skulls, witches, ghosts, and foreign masquerades into our spaces without a second thought.
But put a traditional African mask in the same home? Suddenly it becomes “scary,” “backward,” “pagan,” or “not for the house.”
Can we make that make sense?
One is a commercialized holiday from elsewhere that we adopted. The other is a piece of our own cultural and spiritual history. If we can make room for one, why is there still so much discomfort with the other

Our ancestors didn't have mechanical cooling systems, yet they developed architectural solutions that responded to their environment.
Courtyards, shaded verandas, thick walls and carefully positioned openings.

Don't mind people with their toxic sensitivity. Worked with Ukranians, Polish and South Africans whose name people struggle to pronounce. They happily shorten it for you and move on with business of the day.
But people with the identity crisis always fighting it.
