Major accidents happen when advance warning signs are ignored. And to know those warning signs, you need more than common sense! I help organisations &industry leaders identify those signs so they achieve desired operational resilience. Follow for practical safety observations, careers and occasional takes on everyday events through the lens of a Process Safety expert. Safety isn't luck, it's the result of deliberate decisions.

Why was it stranded, I can’t understand how the FG would spend billions buying equipment & then the same FG (through customs) lock it down for 20yrs this whole story makes no sense! What is being celebrated about equipment that are probably now obsolete?! Are we cursed?
For nearly 20 years, over 300 containers of transmission equipment sat stranded at our ports. This equipment was bought to expand the network, relieve overloaded substations and bring more reliable electricity to Nigerians. Yesterday, the Nigeria Customs Service approved the release of the first 98. Our engineers will now verify the equipment, test it and deploy it where it is needed most. That means completing stalled projects, easing pressure on overloaded substations and strengthening the grid. This is a significant first step, and we are working to secure the release of the remaining 200+ containers without further delay. We are grateful to His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for approving the release. We also thank the Comptroller-General and officers of the Nigeria Customs Service, the Honourable Minister of Finance, the Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, the Nigerian Ports Authority, the terminal operators and the TCN team for their support. A stronger grid, one step at a time. 🇳🇬 #PowerUpdate #MinistryOfPower #RenewedHope #NigeriaGrid #ReliablePower

Following this rule will prevent most traffic collision on Nigerian internal roads.
Dear Nigerian drivers, do you know that vehicles on the roundabout have RIGHT OF WAY? Vehicles already on the R/A has priority over the ones entering the R/A. Your colleagues in all other countries said i should tell you! #RoadSafety #Safety9ja #Nigeria

Construction managers should always plan for safe traffic management on their sites which essentially separates pedestrians from vehicles, especially when the project is on a live public road. I noticed a traffic marshall but the Marshall himself is at risk. A better alternative is an engineering control ,e.g. introduce temporary bumbs that forces the driver to slow-down as they approach pedestrian crossing zones. Or introduce a temperature traffic light wland complement it with a marshal.
Nigeria is definitely rising, Tinubu is working. ✅ Forget about haters, Tinubu dey show workings.

My visits to RUDN University, Ural Federal University, Kazan Federal University and Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University gave me a new perspective on education in Russia. Beyond the beautiful campuses and academic environments, the experience exposed me to diverse learning, opportunities, international exposure and possibilities for academic growth…..As a young graduate aspiring to further my education, these visits have only strengthened my desire to become part of this academic community someday. Russia has so much to offer in education, and I hope more young Nigerians get to discover these opportunities. Perhaps, one of these universities will be my next academic destination….Who knows? 😊❤️ #RUDNUniversity #NewDayEducation #NewDayEducation2026

When designing a building, one critical factor to consider is how quickly the occupants can escape in the event of fire, bearing in mind the demography of the occupants: elderly, kids, pregnant women, etc. That's what distinguishes hospital buildings from residential building from life safety POV.

One of the things that causes accidents is poor ergonomics. This pneumatic breaker weighs around 15kg, requires you to use your lower limb (knee) to support it. It also exposes you to excessive vibration which may cause short-term tingling. Add the noise of the breaker. Add the mental exertion due to the precision required of the job.
It looks👀 shorter in the video but despite the slightest anchorage our 1.2m was achieved.

In fire safety, there's a general assumption that members of the public begin to run to safety as soon as they hear fire alarm. But in reality, they spend several seconds investigating the fire and later enter into panic mode followed by irrational decision.

Who else is enjoying Tesla's Halloween mode more than the kids, even days after Halloween? The spooky roaring as you approach/leave the car is my favourite.

Many SMEs think health and safety is only a concern for oil & gas construction sites, but a warehouse with poor traffic management, a restaurant with dangerous cooking installations or a workshop with unguarded machineries can cause similar severe injuries to workers. Safety should match the risks of the business, not the size.

That's why in Food Safety, hot foods (amala, stew, etc.) must be kept ABOVE the danger zone and cold foods (e.g. salad) must be kept BELOW the danger zone.
There is a temperature range known in food safety as the “Danger Zone”, roughly 40°F to 140°F (about 4°C to 60°C). In the Danger Zone, bacteria can double in number roughly every 20 minutes.

I could see "Tomra", a popular OEM for a machinery called "Optical Sorter". The machine uses LED (infrared) light and AI to separate materials based on colour, shape, etc. I remember doing a PUWER inspection for a couple of them several months ago.

Fascinating to always see Africa replacing ancestral technology with automated technology. We need more! Minor spoiler: The machinery safety needs serious improvement. You can't have exposed rotating parts and semi-autonomous robots in such close proximity to human. Safety first!
This is precisely the value addition the President has consistently preached about. Uganda is steadily moving in that direction consolidating progress, safeguarding achievements, and protecting the gains.

Gypsum is a generally a safe/harmless material, unlike asbestos. So these lads don't really need to wear gloves or protective clothing. But inhaling gypsum dust can cause them some minor irritation or nasal congestion.

This is impressive. Out of curiosity, how did they determine that it was methane that is leaking? Pure methane is odourless. Answering the question will provide 40% of the clue needed to solve the problem. E.g. Based on the odouriser (i.e. how the gas smells), you can determine from which gas network or storage the leakage is coming.
NUPRC has joined the Ogun State Government to investigate the recurring methane emissions in Ijebu-Ode, after four incidents this year. A team of experts is examining emission patterns and causes, and assessing ways to prevent future occurrences. youtu.be/7sJJnr_CKto?si=CNu0… 🧵 #Ogun #IjebuOde #Methane

It's a well intended plan. One imminent issue to look out for is a possibility of operational frictions and further delays in response when emergency response is requested. It also creates 'single point of failure' risk. Fire & life safety rescue, medical emergency rescue, spill response, natural disaster response etc. should all have separate Control Rooms which would then be coordinated/ integrated into the National Command Centre.
BREAKING: The Federal Government has announced plans to enact the Federal Fire and Rescue Service Act to overhaul the Nigeria's emergency architecture and transition the Federal Fire Service (FFS), from a fire fighting unit into a comprehensive rescue service.

Why can't they cross over the lawn? They all lost momentum at the 90 degree leading to the doorstep.

Whenever you are riding along with kids on an escalator, always look out for an emergency stop button. It's that red and yellow button (sometimes shrouded) usually located close to landing or platform if the escalator. Its purpose is to quickly stop the escalator in case someone is falling or entangled. Have you ever noticed it?

The site engineer that approves of this is an amateur. The project manager who oversees the project is an armchair expert.
Between this and pregnancy, which one is more dangerous?
