🔴 Liverpool Are Stirring, and Anfield Is Beginning to Believe
There was something deeply satisfying about Liverpool’s 2-0 victory over Brighton. A fourth consecutive win, a first home #PremierLeague triumph under Andoni Iraola, and perhaps the clearest indication yet that this side is developing the character required to compete against the leagues’ best sides.
Brighton deserve enormous credit. They arrived in magnificent form and played some excellent football, dominating possession and asking serious questions of Liverpool’s defensive organisation. Yet for all their territorial superiority, they managed a solitary shot on target.
Much of that was down to Ronald Araújo, who was, by some distance, my Man of the Match. The Uruguayan was immense. Five duels contested, five won, three tackles and an authority that seemed to grow with every Brighton attack. Jeremy Jacquet was excellent alongside him.
Further forward, there were encouraging signs of genuine understanding developing between Florian Wirtz, Alexander Isak and Bradley Barcola. The movement and combinations during the first half were particularly impressive, with Barcola’s determination creating Isak’s goal. Wirtz continues to blossom, making his injury withdrawal especially frustrating.
Cody Gakpo also contributed positively, although his decision-making on several promising counterattacks left me exasperated. There were opportunities to punish Brighton further, squandered through hesitation or a poorly timed release.
Nevertheless, this was a mature, disciplined performance against strong opposition.
#LFC have climbed to fourth, confidence is growing, and the players increasingly appear comfortable with Iraola’s demands.
Arsenal visit next weekend, offering another considerable examination of progress.
For now, Anfield can savour a victory of genuine significance.
Something is beginning to take shape here, and I rather like what I’m seeing.

🟥 Iraola's Liverpool Revival Faces Biggest Test Yet
There is a peculiar sense of anticipation surrounding Liverpool at present. The football remains imperfect, the vulnerabilities painfully familiar, yet something is stirring beneath the surface. Andoni Iraola's side are beginning to offer glimpses of a future worth believing in.
Brighton arrive at Anfield in formidable condition, third in the Premier League and playing with the confidence of a side that fears nobody. Four consecutive league victories, 15 goals scored and none conceded. Those figures demand respect.
Liverpool, meanwhile, are still searching for their first home league victory of the season. Three draws from three matches at Anfield represent a deeply unsatisfactory return for a club whose greatest achievements have so often been forged through the intimidation of visiting opponents.
Yet Tuesday's extraordinary victory over Villarreal offered encouragement. There were passages of football possessing genuine authority, moments when Liverpool's attacking movement and collective intensity suggested the beginnings of something substantial.
Florian Wirtz is growing in influence, Alexander Isak is finding goals, and young Rio Ngumoha has surely earned another opportunity. I would start him. His confidence must be soaring, and talent of that nature deserves encouragement.
Iraola deserves credit, too. His willingness to make difficult decisions and reward performances has brought fresh energy to a squad that desperately needed it.
Brighton will expose any defensive carelessness. I suspect both sides will score, and Liverpool's attacking quality will ensure a compelling afternoon.
Victory would provide an enormous psychological lift before Arsenal visit next weekend. I fancy Liverpool to compete fiercely, although midfield deficiencies mean I cannot quite convince myself they will keep Brighton out.
🔺 Predicted Liverpool XI (4-2-3-1):
Alisson; Araújo, Jacquet, Van Dijk, Kerkez; Mac Allister, Gravenberch; Ngumoha, Wirtz, Barcola; Isak
🔺 Score Prediction:
Liverpool 2-2 Brighton

• 5 recoveries
• 2/3 duels won

His third start in a row. 🇦🇹🔥
Newcastle sold out St. James’ Park every match-day in the Championship.
Manchester City can’t even sell out on a Champions League night after winning everything there is to win.
The soul matters. The culture matters.
In fact, it matters a hell of a lot more than winning.

As a reminder, this is a club that once claimed to earn more revenue than Real Madrid.

🎙️📝 𝗦𝗨𝗠𝗠𝗔𝗥𝗬 - Andoni Iraola’s post-Villarreal press conference:
• Admitted Villarreal were the better side in the first half, particularly in the opening 30-35 minutes, but praised his side’s response after the break
• Explained Ronald Araujo’s half-time substitution, saying Liverpool needed to deal with Villarreal’s midfield overloads, Ryan Gravenberch offered greater defensive flexibility and attacking support for Rio Ngumoha
• Praised Ngumoha’s attacking threat, highlighting his assist for Alexis Mac Allister and decision-making in the final third
• Was pleased with Ngumoha’s attitude and desire to improve, stressing that the 18-year-old still has plenty of room to develop and will inevitably experience ups and downs
• Explained that Alexander Isak was not risked from the start following a muscle injury, while Florian Wirtz and Bradley Barcola were rested after a physically demanding spell of fixtures
• Said Liverpool needed to press Villarreal much more aggressively, he felt his side improved after going 2-0 down by winning more duels and imposing their physical intensity
• Praised Mac Allister’s performances this season, highlighting his composure, leadership and ability to organise the team during difficult moments
• Believes Liverpool’s stronger Champions League scoring record compared with the Premier League is more about the opposition faced than the competitions themselves, adding that the team may also be defending better in Europe

🗣️Andoni Iraola on Alexis Mac Allister 🇦🇷
"I think he’s a player that can also arrive inside the box, be that, we call it a No.8, sometimes arrive into half-spaces and the first goal in a set-piece also is a great goal. He’s a great player heading the ball, even if he’s not the tallest he is always dangerous. And also the character, I think when you are 2-0 down, you are not playing well, he doesn’t panic, he organises."

⚽️ Magnificent Chaos, Familiar Concerns
#LFC 4-3 Villarreal:
There are nights at Anfield when the Champions League seems determined to remind us that football remains gloriously resistant to reason. Liverpool’s chaotic 4-3 victory over Villarreal was one of them, exhilarating, infuriating and occasionally bordering on the absurd.
Two goals down inside half an hour, Liverpool’s defensive fragility was painfully exposed. Virgil van Dijk endured a particularly troubling opening, and the ease with which Villarreal exploited space behind our defensive line should concern Andoni Iraola enormously.
Yet the response revealed something increasingly encouraging about this Liverpool side. Once the tempo increased and the pressing became coordinated, Villarreal struggled to live with us.
Alexis Mac Allister was magnificent. Two goals, five shots, four chances created and an authority in possession that continues to make his contractual situation increasingly pressing. Liverpool would now be foolish to allow uncertainty over his future to linger.
And then there’s Rio Ngumoha.
What a remarkable footballer we’re watching develop. Seven successful dribbles, two assists and the distinction of becoming Liverpool’s youngest Champions League assist provider. His growing intelligence on the right flank, particularly his willingness to attack defenders at pace, is transforming his game. The confidence is infectious.
Trey Nyoni deserves enormous credit too, completing 82 of 87 passes, while Florian Wirtz brought intelligence, urgency and a deserved goal from the bench.
Liverpool registered 22 shots and 2.37 xG, evidence of the attacking pressure that eventually overwhelmed Villarreal.
Three Champions League matches, three victories. There is genuine excitement building around Iraola’s Liverpool, although conceding three at home should trouble everyone.
Brighton arrive on Sunday with considerably less inclination to forgive such generosity.
A thrilling victory, but Liverpool’s defending remains a serious concern.
