Schröder, ehemaliger Kanzler, LEGT DIE WAHRHEIT OFFEN: „Frieden sabotiert!

The first Black woman to produce programmes for the BBC was a Jamaican poet who arrived in London in 1932 and could not find anyone who would rent her a room.
She ended up running the radio programme that launched Caribbean literature.
Then she had a breakdown and was put on a ship home.
Una Marson. She was already an editor and playwright in Jamaica when she came to Britain.
She documented the experience of looking for lodgings in a city where the signs said no coloureds, and wrote a poem about it called "Nigger" that is still hard to read.
She worked for the League of Coloured Peoples, then for Haile Selassie when he was in exile in London after the Italian invasion of Ethiopia, and sat behind him at the League of Nations.
In 1941 the BBC took her on.
By 1942 she was producing "Calling the West Indies," which began as a programme reading servicemen's messages home and which she turned into "Caribbean Voices" — the programme that broadcast and paid a generation of Caribbean writers including Derek Walcott, V.S. Naipaul, Samuel Selvon and George Lamming.
It is not an exaggeration to say modern Caribbean literature was partly built in that studio.
She was the only Black woman in the building, in wartime, producing for an organisation that was not always sure it wanted her there, and the strain was enormous.
She had a breakdown in 1945 and returned to Jamaica.
She kept working — journalism, publishing, social work — and died in 1965 at fifty-nine, largely forgotten in Britain until scholars rediscovered her in the 1990s.
She gave the Caribbean its literary voice from inside Broadcasting House and went home on a ship with a nervous collapse.

New York mayor Zohran Mamdani, born in Kampala to parents of Indian descent, had a short rap career before he went into politics.
He performed as “Young Cardamom,” then later as “Mr. Cardamom.”
He rapped in English and in Ugandan languages, including Luganda, and wrote about identity, race, class, food and life in Uganda.
An early track, “Kanda (Chap Chap),” lined his own story up with chapati, an Indian food that became a staple in Uganda and elsewhere in East Africa.
He also worked on music for his mother Mira Nair’s film Queen of Katwe, and later put out “Nani,” a song for his grandmother, with Indian actress Madhur Jaffrey in the video.

The media can make us believe anything they want – even that Charles loved Diana:
The current narrative of “beloved king shocked by claim he said something nasty 30 years ago” is a perfect example of how, given a bit of time, the media can reinvent the very reality the media itself once created, readily flipping on its head a now inconvenient, earlier narrative.
Anyone who lived through the Princess Diana years should be able to recall that, according to the media of that time, Charles was the undoubted villain – a cold-hearted man who cheated from the start of his marriage on a young, beautiful, doting wife he never loved.
Charles wanted his old flame Camilla as his bride and future queen – and, with Diana’s untimely death in 1997 at the hands of the press pack as her car was chased through a Paris underpass late at night, he soon got his way.
Earl Spencer’s new claim in a book published this week that Charles told him, shortly after Diana’s death, that she would “soon be forgotten” fits all too snugly with that earlier narrative.
But not with the new narrative.
Now, with Charles a “kindly old king and family man battling to recover from cancer”, the sort of behaviour that made perfect sense in the earlier narrative is a nuisance. Which is why Earl Spencer is receiving a lot more pushback than he would have expected had he made such a claim in the late 1990s.
Three decades ago, Charles was portrayed as an unpopular Prince of Wales, a man lacking the common touch of Diana, and a crank obsessed with irrelevant things like the environment and architecture. The Queen, so the story of that time went, was so unsure of his ability to rule effectively that she dared not abdicate.
Fast forward to the present day, with Queen Elizabeth II dead and Charles III head of state.
The King is now a wise elder statesman bearing lightly the heavy burden of high office, managing Britain’s tricky relations with a deranged Trump administration better than any politician, and doing it all through serious illness. Ever the good father, he is fulfilling his duties as king to provide his son, William, with the chance to raise and enjoy his young family before he himself is crowned.
We’re in permanent telenovela land. Who knows which bits of this, if any, are true. But the plot twists serve a purpose, like soap opera, to keep us entertained and distracted from the real problems we desperately need to be focusing on.
And most importantly, whichever way the plot switches, the media cash in on the drama of it all.
But there is a deeper point. The media, through sustained plot engineering, can have us believe anything – that black is white, and up is down. They can, through sheer force of a new narrative consensus, make us believe the very opposite of what we were encouraged to believe a few moments earlier.
That is why billionaires buy up newspapers. Because they can, through their ownership of everything, and most especially the media, shape our minds into believing it is a good thing that billionaires own everything.
They make us believe that any change to that order would be catastrophic.
They make us believe that our societies are in decline, not because the billionaires have siphoned off all the wealth to their off-shore accounts but because small boats are “invading” our shores.
For decades, they had us believing the planet was doing just fine despite what all the scientists said. It was simply down to each individual to be more responsible: to cycle more, to recycle more, and to switch to long-lasting lightbulbs. Now that climate chaos is upon us, they tell us we will just have to adapt to hotter summers and colder, stormier winters.
The only consistent element is that the billionaires never address their own role in engineering this ecological disaster. Their choice to prioritise rocketing profits over the health of the planet is never scrutinised by the media they own.
Last year the writer Omar El Akkad published the book One Day, Everyone Will Have Always Been Against This on the West’s complicity in Israel’s genocide in Gaza. One can already see how prophetic the book’s title is.
A British government led by Sir Keir Starmer that deeply colluded in the mass slaughter in Gaza is now recasting itself as an opponent, under the new leadership of Andy Burnham.
Similarly, the billionaire-owned media is slowly taking a less enthusiastic stance on Israel, doubtless hoping that Israeli voters evict prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the forthcoming general election so that the media can have a freer hand to rewrite their script. Then they will gradually accept as a given that what Netanyahu did – though not Israel – was a genocide. And of course, they will have always been against it.
Any lie can be repackaged as a self-evident truth once you have absolute narrative control. The naked emperor can be magically clothed, if the media so decides.
Amid this pervasive unreliability, there is one North Star by which to navigate. Anything that benefits the billionaires cannot be trusted.
As long as they are in charge, we will continue squabbling among ourselves, victims of their self-serving story-telling.

In the ongoing genocide case against the Israeli apartheid regime in the International Court of Justice, South Africa has submitted a dossier to the ICJ on the regime’s blatant non-compliance with the Court’s Provisional Orders, and on its continuing acts of genocide in Palestine. South Africa understands that, for the sake of all of humanity, the impunity of the Israeli regime and its collaborators must end. And making that happen is a responsibility of all of us.

Jason Arday wasn't the first academic to be accused of plagiarism at Cambridge. He wasn't the first person to have made implausible claims about his life in an autobiography.
But he was the first where those things became a front-page story, across multiple papers, for days and days.

Very important to know how and who started the harassment of Jason Arday.
As I said, white supremacy kills.
Nathan Cofnas is the man behind the Jason Arday story. Here’s who he actually is.
In February 2024, Cofnas wrote a blog post claiming that under a “meritocracy,” Black people would “disappear from almost all high-profile positions outside of sports and entertainment.” He called racial equality “based on lies.”
Cambridge’s Emmanuel College cut ties with him over it. The Leverhulme Trust, which funded his research, disavowed him and opened its own investigation.
He sued Emmanuel College for discrimination. He lost. Cambridge’s own disciplinary body dismissed all 58 complaints against him, ruling it fell under free speech protections.
He then moved to Ghent University in Belgium. Over 300 staff and students there protested his hiring, questioning whether his views were compatible with the university’s ethics code.
This is the man who spent months going through a Black professor’s PhD thesis and personal history, then published it on Substack. That’s what triggered Cambridge’s investigation into Jason Arday.
This context is missing from nearly all the coverage. A self-described “race realist,” who argued Black professors would basically disappear under merit alone, is the one who decided which Black professor deserved scrutiny.
Black professors: under 1% of the UK total.
Black academics reaching professor level: 3.8%.
This isn’t the first case. It won’t be the last.

I do not support Palestine Action but proscribing it as a terrorist organisation is intellectually bankrupt... Frankly I am deeply ashamed"
2,700+ people have been arrested for holding up signs
If someone commits criminal damage or attacks another person, they should absolutely be prosecuted. Those are crimes and should be dealt with through the normal justice system.
But arresting people simply for holding up signs expressing support raises a serious question about freedom of expression and proportionality.
Also, how can it be right for people to be treated as terrorists when a jury never convicted them of terrorism?
I'm with Baron Hain on this. How about you?
