Wet carpet, displaced traffic and general chaos and confusion around Oxford Street today! Thank you @BBCNews @GrahamSatchell for listening to Westminster residents concerns. @MaryleboneAssoc @MumsForLungs @MaryleboneMums @OxfordStreet @OxfordStreetW1 @TfL

Well done Sadiq Khan. Delayed because of the traffic due to your vanity project. Shocking but so predictable! 👇

Went to Oxford Street to try out the pedestrian zone. Oh dear. Accessibility? Nah yet again.

One man’s vision is another one’s accessibility nightmare.
This is what nearly a kilometre of opportunity looks like. For Londoners, visitors and the businesses that call Oxford Street home.

Having ridden some buses this morning, there very much has been "a material change to journey time". My 390 bus ride this morning took 14 minutes longer than pre-pedestrianisation. #oxfordstreet

An 'emotional' farewell to Oxford Street's buses. Passengers on board the last bus to travel down the famous shopping street have been sharing their thoughts on the historic journey. Almost a kilometre of Oxford Street is now traffic-free, with buses diverted onto surrounding roads. What do you make of the changes? A lack of ‘greenery’. These are the planters on Oxford Street currently managed by the mayor.

What a disaster. You can pedestrianise Oxford Street but not stop the illegals getting in. And cyclists will ignore and keep going down. I went down Oxford Street once. It felt right to have traffic. Now it looks dead.

London’s bus services are slower than ever. They are still replacing bus lanes with bike tracks, reducing junction capacity for buses and not bothering to enforce parking in bus lanes.

My concern about Oxford St pedestrianisation which no one has picked up on - cuts to bus services & lack of choice for passengers with disabilities. 94 no longer serves Piccadilly to Marble Arch was always busy. Only option now 139 via Wigmour St to Portman Sq at 10min frequency

Day one of Sadiq Khan’s Oxford Street pedestrianisation: empty pavements, roadwork barriers, security guards and cyclists riding on the pavement. This is the grand transformation London was promised? Or another vanity project being sold as progress? 👏 #OxfordStreet #London

LORD KHAN has some front gaslighting over pedestrianising OXFORD STREET. Meanwhile almost every tube sevice in London this morning is subject to severe delays. Get your priorities right and stop passing the buck on to Tfl. You are the Mayor. Your job is to deliver London Transport!

Struggling to understand any of @MayorofLondon's flustered, incoherent justifications for pedestrianising Oxford Street, on @BBCr4today. Apparently people who can't walk very far have to understand that "change isn't easy for everyone". So tough shit, pensioners!

Every town centre that's been made pedestrianised has turned into a soulless dump with bikes tearing around

You've managed to gridlock Portman Sq with buses at 9 o'clock on a Sunday night, so well done you grubby, feeble little man.

So women wont be able to stay on a main well lit road like Oxford street to hail a cab after. night out? They will be forced into side roads to get to another main road? Or have to walk a kilometer? What about disabled or people with kids or shopping? No jumping on a bus or getting a cab. All the traffic has to go somewhere and surrounding area will be gridlocked. Who does this benefit? There will be more crime and rough sleeping now. Just watch.

So long Oxford Street West. Will miss the 7, 94, 139 and 390 plus the night bus routes going past stopping outside John Lewis and Selfridges. Oxford St West won’t be the same :(
🚨 As of 15 minutes ago, no more vehicles are on Oxford Street and it’s officially pedestrianised.
