Former Drug Addict and Convict Speaks Up About the War On Drugs
Tatay Digong, I'm one of the thousands who were imprisoned and went through rehabilitation process.
But instead of being angry, I'm grateful to Former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte as an instrument in giving me a second chance at life. Maybe if I had died during his time, it would have been a consequence of my choices-but instead, I am here, given another opportunity to change, grow, and make a difference.
Before the War on Drugs, drugs were uncontrolled in every corner of our place. Wherever you looked, there were users and dealers openly operating, communities living in fear, and families being torn apart by addiction and crime. The poison of drugs was destroying my life, pulling me into a cycle of darkness, pain, and regret. It affected not just me, but also my loved ones, destroying relationships and stealing my future—until I was given a second chance to turn things around.
When a brave leader came and dared to confront this problem, our place slowly began to change.
Pushers and users, including myself, were scared, awakened, and some were forced to change their lives.
Inside the jail, I truly got to know the Lord. Amidst my downfall moments, my regrets, and my brokenness, I strengthened my faith, and in Him, I found light amidst the darkness that had consumed my life, guiding me toward redemption, hope, and a new purpose.
Now, everyone who knows me is aware that I used to be a menace to society, lost and consumed by vices. But God changed me, lifted me from my dark past. And one of the biggest instruments of the change in my life was the best, bravest, and greatest president in Philippine history-Former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte.
Thankyou very much, Tay! By the grace of God, I was given a second chance at life and truly got to know the LORD. Now, l'm determined to continue changing-not just for myself, but to be an inspiration and instrument of hope for others. We love you, Tay. I will tell my kids about the sacrifices you made and the changes you brought to our country —how you fought for peace, order, and the future of the next generation.
