New paper with @MCrichigno at @Phasecraft. AI agents optimize quantum circuits, and an exact verifier checks every result. arxiv.org/abs/2610.31352 The challenge itself is automated too. An agent works with a researcher to build the verifier, tests it, and freezes it. Then the agents compete. We observed large gains on every problem we tried, from fermion-to-qubit encodings to qubit routing and unitary synthesis. The method applies to any problem with an exact checker. It's great to see others working in the same direction this week. Excellent papers from Google Quantum AI and Harvard/QuEra/Anthropic: arxiv.org/abs/2610.23832 arxiv.org/abs/2610.22367 and the inverse square root challenge: opensource.googleblog.com/20…

mRNA will be crucial to beating cancer and solving disease but only if we can deliver it to the right cells. Nanograb's AI-designed multivalent nanoparticles address a cell's unique receptor fingerprint, now proven in vivo across multiple cell types and scaling to many more.

To reach some consensus about the prospects of near-term (nisq and early ft) quantum computing, we had a 3-day discussion event (“Quantum Now”) in Lapland with both optimists and pessimists. This continued at SeeQA 2024 in Oxford. See our conclusions here arxiv.org/abs/2501.05694

One of my favourite letters, insightful & humane, from Richard Feynman to a former student who was having a rough time I was reflecting on it as an argument in favour of scope insensitivity, or even in favour of smaller problems:
