⭕️ Calif. Gov. Gavin Newsom commutes sentences of all 548 death-row inmates, rejecting “state-sanctioned killing”:
Newsom reduced the death sentences of every prisoner in the state to life sentences without parole instead on Thursday. “State-sanctioned killing is incompatible with California’s values,” he said, calling it one of the most difficult decisions of his political life.
The move cancelled about 25% of the nation’s current death sentences. Incoming Gov.-elect Xavier Becerra has already pledged to maintain a moratorium on executions that Newsom signed.
