During yesterday's House session, @MiaForRep honored the late Alan Hassenfeld, a prominent businessman and philanthropist, past Chairman and Chief Executive Officer and Chairman Emeritus of Hasbro Toys, which had been founded by his family in 1923. During his tenure as Chairman, Mr. Hassenfeld led the company through years of substantial growth. As Rep. Ackerman noted, "while Hasbro was one of the state's leading employers for decades, we also honor Mr. Hassenfeld as one of the state's leading philanthropists. He left an enduring impact on our state." Speaker @JoeShekarchi said "Alan Hassenfeld was a dear friend and he is sorely missed. He used his success for his philanthropic efforts throughout Rhode Island and throughout the country....I miss my friend Alan." Rep. Ackerman introduced a resolution in his memory: webserver.rilegislature.gov/…

@TheValleyBreeze: Deputy Majority Whip @MiaForRep joined Gov. Dan McKee last month for a ceremonial signing of legislation she sponsored to improve public health education about Alzheimer’s and dementia. “Alzheimer’s is a growing health crisis in our state. Currently the fifth leaning cause of death, it will only get worse if we do not take action now,” said Rep. Ackerman, of District 45, Cumberland, Lincoln. “My bill is an important part of Rhode Island’s efforts to keep our citizens healthy and to reverse this trend, because despite the staggering impacts of this disease, public education about Alzheimer’s still lags behind. Early intervention has never been more important when treating Alzheimer’s than it is now, yet while people know about Alzheimer’s, but they don’t know what to look for, and they don’t know what to do when they see it.” Ackerman spoke in March at the @alzassocri State Advocacy Day in support of this bill, which was one of the association’s top legislative priorities for the year. Legislation sponsored by House Deputy Majority Whip Mia Ackerman (@MiaForRep) and Senate Majority Whip David P. Tikoian has been signed into law to ensure that debit card fraud is prosecuted in the same way as credit card fraud. The legislation (2025-S 0952, 2025-H 5637) adds debit cards to the section of law relating to fraudulent use of credit cards, ensuring that anyone who fraudulently uses one can be prosecuted appropriately. The bill was signed into law June 10 following passage by the General Assembly. Said Deputy Majority Whip Ackerman (D-Dist. 45, Cumberland, Lincoln), “When you’re a victim of fraud, you are just as hurt regardless of whether it was your credit card or your debit card that was used. No one deserves to endure that ordeal only to have the person who victimized them escape the charge because of the type of card that was used. Closing this loophole will better protect Rhode Islanders and their financial well-being.” More information: rilegislature.gov/pressrelea…

Tonight, Jewish families around the world will begin the celebration of Passover with the traditional seder meal. Michelle and I loved the seders we held in the White House, and the story of Passover – with its focus on resilience, redemption, and renewal in the face of persecution and uncertainty. Today it rings even more true. This Passover, let’s remember everyone who is unable to celebrate the holiday with their loved ones. And in a time when there’s been so much suffering and loss in Israel and Gaza, let’s reaffirm our commitment to the Jewish people, and people of all religions, who deserve to feel safe and secure wherever they live and practice their faith. Chag Sameach.

Thrilled to see that the @RIHouseofReps has passed the data sharing bill H7301 championed by Deputy Majority Whip Representative Mia Ackerman @MiaForRep Representative Ackerman is a tireless advocate for the people of RI and we are very grateful for her efforts especially as they relate to reducing the burden of cancer in the state. Sharing deidentified patient data at US federal standards will go a long way to enable progress in understanding cancer causes and cancer treatment effects in Rhode Island. I was happy to testify at the RI State House in Feb, 2024 in support of the H7301 bill. youtu.be/xCDoyH06Ato?si=UzpW… @BrownUCancer @BrownMedicine @BrownUniversity @LifespanHlthSys @carenewengland #LegorretaCancerCenter @JoeShekarchi @GovDanMcKee @AlbertDahlberg1 @ShiOnaCo

Honored to testify this afternoon for 2024 Rhode Island House Bill H7301 about data sharing of deidentified data so that Rhode Island can be in line with federal law. Sharing deidentified data is very important to understand the very high cancer rates in Rhode Island and is important for those affected by other diseases as well. Thankful to Deputy Majority Whip of the RI House Rep. Mia Ackerman @MiaForRep and the other sponsors of the house bill including bipartisan support from Rep. Susan Donovan, Rep. Attorney General @PeterNeronha announced today that the Office has issued guidance to Rhode Island landlords, reminding property owners of their new responsibilities following the passage of lead poisoning prevention laws that will increase compliance with existing lead laws. “The effects of lead poisoning on children are severe and long-lasting, and the worst part is that lead poisoning is entirely preventable,” said House Deputy Majority Whip @MiaForRep (D-Dist. 45, Cumberland, Lincoln). “I was very proud to join my partners in the legislature to enact laws to ensure that Rhode Island children are protected from these avoidable dangers, and I am thrilled that Attorney General Neronha has issued guidance to ensure compliance with the new legislation. All children deserve to grow and thrive in a lead-free environment.” More information: riag.ri.gov/press-releases/a…
