Glorious scenes at Old Trafford. Cherries completely running riot juxtaposed with Carrick mugging Bruno off on the bench!

“It’s not easy being a Tour player, being away from my family, especially when you’re on the bubble. Obviously I’m not the only person but the last thing you want to do is start a little family and then get demoted or lose some of your playing rights.
“I was obviously thinking about his future, making sure my wife doesn’t have to get a job! It was definitely on the back of my mind and I’ve also got Stevie to take care of. There’s lots of things that weigh on our shoulders when we’re out there playing golf.”

This is another aspect of the concept of “patina,” and its loss, which I mentioned the other day.
For a long time, golf was somewhat exempt from the typical and boring obsession with cleanness, newness and “optimization” because clubs and facilities weren’t raking in $$$, so they didn’t have money burning holes in their pockets to make them restless and jealous about their neighbors’ latest projects.
One downside of the new golf economy is that the ego and self-consciousness of many memberships and owners now has an outlet, and we’re seeing what poor taste a lot of people have. Clubs that *could* do this stuff, but choose not to, deserve more appreciation than ever.

The best locker rooms on this list never got “modernized”
They kept the original metal lockers, the spike-marked benches, and the carpet that should’ve been replaced in 1987. This is proper.
Meanwhile clubs keep destroying their own history so some board can chase the latest style and slap “locker room renovation” on their résumé. Modern lockers and fresh carpet never age well.
If you are a part of an old historic club, walk in and feel like it’s a “spec home”bathroom your club has lost its soul.

When I was a boy channel 7 would bring out Critchley & Laidlaw for the summers big tournaments. Wonderful to hear his voice again.
Bruce Critchley joins the pod this week for a fascinating conversation on his broadcasting career, the course changes at his home club Sunningdale, his dazzling amateur career, and the careers of his parents too.
A wonderful hour of stories, and you can hear the full interview below.

Super stuff from Sean Crocker when he had to go and do it. Gutsy grind. You’d like to think this could give him the boost he needs next year because he’s certainly got the ability!
Front Nine: Projected 101st
Back Nine: Projected 100th
Sean Crocker has done all he can to keep his DP World Tour playing rights for next season but now has the anxious wait for confirmation.

Chelsea been abysmal here and heads fully gone now. Rogers should have been sent there for that barbaric hack. Empty head
“..betrayal feels like the right word. And unfortunately when one feels that way inevitably what follows is a loss of respect, and what tends to fill the void left behind is resentment and contempt. I don’t want to feel resentment or contempt..but I’m afraid its an inevitability”
Seeing others speculate on the topic, I had to throw my hat into the ring. I couldn't help myself.

Some performance from Yuta Katsuragawa. 106th on the money list coming into the week probably only thinking about how to get top 100. Now all of a sudden he’s -7 thru 15 in round 3, tied for the lead and completely turning his season around..
