The current Irish governmentโs defence innovations include wanting members of its military to address what it calls their โcolleaguesโ, with their preferred pronouns. Rank and name did the job perfectly well for centuries. Then you look at what they actually spend on defence and you can see on full display the disregard they have for defence and those charged with the responsibility to maintain it.
Even taking into account Ireland's inflated GDP, the scale of under-investment in defence is well illustrated in todays Eurostat figures below. The continued non-existence of a National Security Strategy, a security vetting framework and a full time defence minister also point to a political class that just does not understand how Europe security has changed since 2022. With Putin waging full scale war on Ukraine and hybrid war on other countries, and Trump's unreliability, national security should be a top priority.

Israelis heard three Druse speaking in Arabic in a Tel Aviv club. They beat them so badly all three were hospitalised. Now the Druse are protesting and blocking roads. Not least because all three were serving in the Israeli military. The Druse are drafted in Israel and often end up in elite formations.
It's quite remarkable that they were attacked in hyper liberal Tel Aviv. But it shows you where Israeli youths are politically. The older generation of politicians often refer to Druse as blood brothers. The younger generation is just rabid.
