“A few Master and Commander viewings would do more to combat ‘toxic masculinity’ in schools than a million screenings of Adolescence”
I wrote about my love for the film Master and Commander, in honour of Trafalgar Day this week spectator.com/article/in-pra…
I keep hearing Protestants saying things like, ‘we need to look to Catholicism to recover a robust theology of the body’.
And then I read this.
Give me strength.
“One of the fundamental claims of Christianity is that it is relevant to people everywhere because it is true.”
Is this a joke?
🚨 NEW: Andy Burnham has announced changes to car parking fines
- Drivers will have a 5-minute grace period to decide whether to park and 10 minutes to leave after a parking session ends
- A £20 maximum charge on appeal for minor mistakes, such as entering the wrong number plate or not displaying a permit
- Charges will also be cancelled on appeal for breakdowns, medical emergencies or broken ticket machines
- The £100 cap on charges will remain
- The rules will come into force as soon as possible and operators that break them will lose access to DVLA data
Love how much faith VVD has in Jacquet to leave him and go chasing the ball into the attacking third. #LIVVIL

Sir Roger Scruton ran an illegal underground university behind the Iron Curtain in communist Czechoslovakia at enormous personal risk in the 70s and 80s. For this *alone* he was a hero and more virtuous than any other public intellectual or commentator we have now.
A good rule of history: if you find yourself opposing a student movement while siding with the ruling class, you're wrong. Every time, in every era, whatever the issue.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Student movements have not always been on the right side of history. Mao's student Red Guards persecuted hundreds of thousands. Students helped Castro and Khomeini rise to power, and Nazi student groups opposed the Weimar Republic.

You have the Conservative Party, I promise you that. I will do everything in my power to defend our school system from so called progressives who want to destroy progress.

“The most beautiful city in the world, with its wonderful culture, all the things that I’ve just learned to appreciate, & these wretched spoilt brats are trying to pull it all down & smashing windows & burning cars which don’t belong to them.”
Sir Roger Scruton, Paris [May '68]
Lol. Of course.
Simple question for #Brexit voters
Would you still have voted for sovereignty in f it cost you GDP?
