Hmm, interesting results. But I am uneasy when such large-scale correlational analyses that gesture at causation are based entirely on aggregate data, without having a single corroborative conversation with anyone in the communities involved. science.org/doi/10.1126/scie…

Cities have a heat problem which can have disastrous consequences for those trapped inside. A new study looks at moths, taking into account their complex life cycle, and how they fare in human-developed environments.

Paper on mega-genus Astragalus is officially out! We focused on biogeographic problems in the arid North Hemisphere. A broader point of interest is the large-scale study of plant edaphic ecology, something I hope there is more of in the future.

New paper in @AIBSbiology BioScience! Identifications are keeping pace with millions of observations added to @iNaturalist, and a small subset of highly active, taxonomically specialized users provide most of the identifications on the site.
academic.oup.com/bioscience/…

ALT Area plots show that users on iNaturalist are 50/50 taxonomic specialists and generalists, with 65% being geographic specialists and 35% being geographic generalists. However, the vast majority of identifications (96%) come from taxonomic specialists, with about half of those being geographic generalist and half geographic specialist.
