him going mental and trying to scrap the away end might be one of the funniest things I've ever seen at a football game, proper head loss

It's now four men's World Cups in a row won by the team that won the first semi-final and had 24 hours extra rest before the final. (And four men's Euros in a row, three Women's World Cups in a row, and three Women's Euros in a row (aside from 2017 when the semis the same day)).
Every men's and women's Euros or World Cup final going back to 2012 has been won by the side who played the first semi (aside from the time the semis were on the same day). So that's one good omen for England... Shoutout to @TomJGarry who loves this stat. nytimes.com/athletic/6512938…

3 - The three shots so far in #ESPARG are the fewest on record (since 1966) in the first half of a FIFA World Cup final, while it's also the first time since 1966 Argentina haven't had a single shot in the first half of any World Cup match. Circumspect.

The Subs & Set-Play Coach Tuchel's flurry of defensive subs & whichever staff member is in charge of the Set-Plays has cost England the World Cup. James And Gordon were responsible for the Argentina short corner and the information for the goal clearly hasn't been passed on. That is absolutely embarrassing & amatuer
"Enzo Fernandez has simply been setting his sights!" 🚀 A rocket of a strike from the midfielder draws Argentina level.

Midfield Masterclass of Momentum These 3, plus De Paul when he was on, provided the one thing that England's £400m+ midfield never appear to have, control of momentum. All of them can do absolutely everything: > Play in Tight Areas to Break Pressure > Slow the Game Down to Avoid Losing Momentum > Speed it up & Create Chances > Goals Outside the Box to Headed Goals Inside All whilst barely giving the ball away (Elliott Anderson gave the ball away more times than them all combined - 11) > Mac Allister (3) > Paredes (2) > Enzo (2) Could watch these 3/4 all day & this game against Spain, has the ability to be an absolutely brilliant watch for enjoying technical midfielders 🥰

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿England v Argentina 🇦🇷: Pre-Match Analysis Spain awaits the winner but this tie needs zero billing & in it's own right with both teams ready to go to war and attack their way to the final: - Argentina are the Highest Scorers - England have missed the most Big Chances England - 13th Best Passers at the WC; More Direct and with Purpose: - 6.7 Shots on Target per 90 - 15 Big Chances Missed (2nd) Unlocking Argentina from Wide Areas - 6 Accurate Crosses per Match (3rd) > Kane v DR Congo > Underlapping Run for Kane v Panama > Bellingham v Mexico Transition Attacks from Deep or Pressing - Lowest Ave. Possession of Semi-Finalists & prefer to break on teams quickly: > Bellingham v Croatia > Bellingham v Mexico x2 Argentina - Highest Scorers with 2.8 Goals per 90 - Highest Accurate Passers - 2 Clean Sheets (14th) Unlocking England Centrally - Accurate Passing but with Purpose and using "Vertical Play" to break teams open through centre: > Messi v Saudi > Messi v Austria Transition from Low into Attack - Not a team that stand out with Pace but with willingness to do hard running > Enzo Fernandez v Egypt > Enzo and Messi v Austria Key Battles/Decisive Areas - England have to improve their distances in Midfield without the ball & watch for those Vertical Passes into Messi/Enzo/Alvarez that can get Argentina straight onto the Defence - Bellingham v Paredes: I could see a scenario where Paredes follows Bellingham around the pitch and sacrifices himself and the structure to protect against their star. - Messi Freedom: I am unsure how you cope with this because as he will float between Guehi(CB) and O'Reilly(LB) then deeper into midfield, it becomes about communication to pass on but that is risky. Let's F*cking Gooo

Including shootouts, just 32 out of 49 penalties have been scored at the 2026 World Cup. The 65.3% conversion rate is the worst in a World Cup since 1966.

Brave Substitutions Beat Brazil The decision to take off their regulars in Nusa & Sorloth for Schjelderup & Bobb was brave, proactive and game decisive. Could see instantly both wingers were told to be on the front foot and exactly why they'd been subbed on. Schjelderup assist for the 1st goal was everything Nusa never attempted 🔥
