I follow the news about power outages in Ukraine, but not for the same reasons as you. I'm just waiting for the creation of a neo-Luddite people's republic 🇷🇺🏞🌱⚡️

Polska, owszem, potrzebuje nowej strategii, a przede wszystkim przemyślenia dotychczasowej.

The SBU is responding to the anti-conscription riots in Kiev, and earlier in Lviv, with something approaching a counterinsurgency operation: about 130 people have been identified and forced to apologize on video, and the women who tried to rescue tortured men and deserters held for ransom in an illegal Azov prison have been arrested without bail. Meanwhile, the anti-corruption bodies are going after top SBU officials for involvement in a large-scale drug cartel and scam call-center business. When NABU detectives came to search an SBU general, he threatened them with a firearm. Meanwhile, the SBU is searching a military intelligence (HUR) officer in the investigation into the high-profile attempted assassination of a Ukrainian businessman in Monaco. For over a decade, the Western public sphere, including a big part of specialized academia, presented post-Euromaidan Ukraine as nation-building, democratizing, and progressively reforming and strengthening the state and civil society on the path to European “civilization.” The reality after this decade looks more like Latin America in the 1970s: states deeply penetrated by the mafia, a comprador bourgeoisie, fascist paramilitaries, and extreme anticommunism, only without any communist guerrillas. In my new article “The Broken Mirror of the World in Crisis,” just out in the brand-new journal The Ukrainian Forum, I offer a theoretical and longue-durée perspective on the disintegration of Ukraine’s state and society, which both reflects and advances the crisis of the order on which a big part of the Ukrainian elites fatally staked the nation’s future. I discuss the role of political capitalism, post-Soviet class conflict, and the deficient Maidan revolutions, and how all of these lead, in particular, to a dramatically weaker Ukrainian capacity for mobilization (in contrast to Russia), which underlies the escalating domestic mess and may define the outcome of the war. One important development in last night’s events around the illegal Azov prison for deserters and draft dodgers, which also served to extort ransoms and provoked a massive riot on Kiev’s outskirts, is the use of Azov paramilitaries to suppress the protesters. Researchers like @kooleksiy predicted long ago that they would be used against anti-conscription riots. This adds a new, characteristically fascist nuance to the events. Otherwise, the events manifest the same escalating dynamics of post-Soviet disintegration in Ukraine’s state and society, to which the maidan deficient revolutions greatly contributed and which the war did not resolve but only escalated. One amusing feature is the use of Russian by almost everyone involved: Budanov, the head of the presidential administration, police, soldiers, protesters from the neighborhood. In such situations, the veil of superficial Ukrainianization falls away and people return to the Russian-speaking norm of post-Soviet Kiev, in which Ukrainian was really expected only in official settings, some education, and narrow “civil society” contexts.

Young inmate taken out of torture prison for draftees in Petropavlivska Borshchahivkka outside Kyiv. There were clashes at the scene between civilian protesters, police and titushki-type hired thugs. Zelensky’s chief of staff Budanov was also in attendance trying to calm people down.

Protesters stormed a building in the town of Sofiivska Borschahivka on the western outskirts of Kyiv, where at least 14 people - primarily forcibly mobilised men - were reportedly being held hostage by personnel from the 1st Corps of the National Guard "Azov". Among those in the building was a child who was allegedly beaten with a shovel. A bus arrived at the scene to transport around 12 of the individuals being held, resulting in the protesters attempting to overturn the vehicle. Rapid Operational Response Unit (KORD) personnel dispersed the protests, with reports of gunfire and explosions being heard amid the clashes. President Office Head Kyrylo Budanov arrived at the scene, stating that he was trying to "figure out what the hell is going on." The event is under investigation by the National Guard.

I'd like to kindly advise everyone getting excited over the current events in Poland not to make or repeat any dramatic proclamations about coups, democracy, the liberal left’s dictatorship, and so on and so forth. We in Poland are very much used to these kinds of scenes of political violence, especially in the judicial sphere, over the past eleven years. This particular episode is obviously somewhat more spectacular than the previous ones, and it certainly goes against the entire constitutional architecture of the country. However treating it as something exceptional, worthy of global excitement, is a very serious mistake. I'll publish an article later this evening explaining the origins and dynamics of this completely artificial, blown-out-of-proportion, and essentially meaningless conflict between two parties that share 95% of the same programmatic, cultural, social, and political platform in virtually every respect. Thank you for your attention to this matter 😉

Poland’s constitutional crisis in brief: A 'far-right', pro-NATO government flooded our highest court with loyalists. Now, a 'center-right', pro-NATO government is replacing those appointees with its own loyalists. Each accuses the other of being ‘communist’.
