Magic’s game plan has been entirely tailored to RJ on defense. Throwing a lot of digs at his drives, blitzing pick-and-rolls, just trying to get the ball out of his hands or make him a non-factor. Respectable! But that’s why he’s struggling.

The Raptors have a net rating of 14.6. That means they outscore teams by 14.6 points per 100 possessions.
With RJ + Scottie on the court, this falls by 5.5 points to +9.1.
With RJ, without Scottie this still falls by 3.6 points to +11.0.
With Scottie, without RJ, this rises to +25.3.
Scottie + Ja'Kobe (without RJ) have a +20.0 Net Rating.
Scottie + CMB (without RJ) have a +56.7 rating.
But keep telling yourself RJ Barrett is solo carrying the offense.
But help me understand. Because I need to understand.
Why is Toronto's offense 0.8 points better without their "best offensive player"?
RJ Barrett has been really good to start the season. But the RJ Barrett hypeboys in the comments section need to do some mental gymnastics to arrive at conclusions the data simply does not support.

Worth mentioning or reminding people of a couple things:
1) offensive and defensive rating are not an individual stats
2) all those points per possession numbers (especially like net rating) normalizes after like 20+ games and really? Honestly? Like closer to 500 minutes.
3) same applies to lineup data
Using any of these numbers at this junction to make a case for anything is straw grasping it to the 100th degree.
