IGP DISU SECURES PROPOSED TRAINING FOR 5,000 POLICE OFFICERS IN NIGERIA–US–ITALY SECURITY PARTNERSHIP
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, has advanced a trilateral security cooperation framework involving Nigeria, the United States and Italy, targeting specialised training for up to 5,000 police personnel.
During his working visit to Italy, IGP Disu engaged Italian law enforcement authorities on strengthening Nigeria’s capacity to tackle terrorism, kidnapping, arms trafficking and other security threats through specialised training, intelligence sharing and technology transfer.
A major highlight was the proposed training programme, which will prioritise counter-insurgency, tactical operations and policing of challenging rural and forested terrains. Other areas include digital forensics, cybercrime, explosives detection, intelligence-led operations and financial investigations.
At a meeting with the Commander General of the Italian Carabinieri, Lieutenant-General Salvatore Luongo, discussions focused on technical assistance, institutional development and enhanced operational capacity.
At the Carabinieri Centre of Excellence for Stability Police Units (CoESPU), Vicenza, the delegation also explored leadership programmes for senior and junior officers, specialised training for tactical units and support for developing Nigeria’s stability policing doctrine.
The IGP further proposed a Memorandum of Understanding to formalise cooperation in training, technology transfer and operational standards, while inviting a Carabinieri assessment team to Abuja to identify priority needs and implementation strategies.
IGP Disu reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to strategic international partnerships that strengthen operational readiness, enhance investigative capabilities and improve the protection of lives and property.

IGP DISU, INTERPOL CHIEF DISCUSS STRONGER ACTION AGAINST TRANSNATIONAL CRIME
The Nigeria Police Force and INTERPOL are strengthening cooperation to track and disrupt criminals and fugitives operating across national borders.
The renewed partnership was discussed in Lyon, France, where the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, met with INTERPOL Secretary General, Valdecy Urquiza and senior officials of the organisation.
The discussions focused on intelligence sharing, access to INTERPOL databases, fugitive tracking and stronger coordination in the fight against cybercrime, terrorism, financial crime, corruption and organised transnational crime.
The Nigerian delegation also received briefings on key initiatives supporting policing cooperation in West Africa, including WAPIS and GEMINI.
The engagement underscores the growing need for international cooperation as criminals increasingly operate across borders. For Nigeria, stronger collaboration with INTERPOL will support intelligence-led policing and enhance the ability of law enforcement to identify, track and disrupt criminals wherever they operate.

CARSPO 2026: CAMPAIGN ON IDEAS RATHER THAN VIOLENCE -
IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu outlines 2027 Election Security Roadmap, Warns Against Electoral Malpractice.
Speaking on Monday at the opening of the Senior Police Officers Conference and Retreat in Owerri, Imo State, the IGP stated that the Nigeria Police Force is fully committed to delivering free, fair, and credible elections in partnership with relevant agencies.
"Compete with ideas, not with thugs. Do not hire mobs, buy votes, move arms or threaten voters and electoral officials," the IGP advised political stakeholders, noting that the police will work closely with the EFCC, ICPC, and INEC to ensure that offenders face trial.
Reviewing the force's operational progress since February 2026 till date, which recorded significant arrests of criminal elements and the rescue of kidnap victims, the IGP assured the public that routine security operations will run concurrently with election preparations.
The new security framework relies on six core pillars:
i. early intelligence mapping,
ii. comprehensive officer training for crowd management and crowd protection,
iii. joint agency cooperation,
iv. fast communication and disinformation tracking,
v. active community partnerships, and
vi. strict adherence to political neutrality.
The IGP also highlighted the importance of officer welfare, directing that election-duty allowances be paid promptly and rest rotations be properly maintained.
He reiterated that while dedicated service will be rewarded, any personnel found engaging in misconduct or partisan bias will be strictly punished.
"When you return to your commands, remember four words: Neutral / Prepared / Present / Accountable,"
the IGP charged the assembled Commissioners of Police and other senior police officers present.

THEY STOLE CARS IN IBADAN. THEY SOLD THEM ACROSS THE BORDER. THEN VCRU CLOSED IN.
An intelligence-driven operation in Ibadan has blown open a trans-national armed robbery syndicate allegedly responsible for a string of vehicle-snatching operations within Ibadan and its environs.
The breakthrough is another testament to the vision of IGP Olatunji Disu, who established the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) as part of his strategy to strengthen the Nigeria Police Force’s capacity to confront violent and organised crime.
On June 20, 2026, at about 2200hrs, operatives of the VCRU, Oyo State Command, led by CSP Babatunde Joe Olorunleke, stormed the syndicate’s hideout around Morning Dew Hotel, Olorunsogo, Ibadan.
Four suspected armed robbers were arrested.
Their interrogation opened the door to a much bigger criminal network.
Recovered:
• 2 locally fabricated cut-to-size guns
• 1 pump-action gun
• 9 live cartridges
• 2 exotic vehicles
The suspects allegedly confessed to being ex-convicts and participating in several armed car-snatching operations across Ibadan and its environs.
But the real breakthrough came when they began naming their criminal receivers.
Several alleged receivers were subsequently arrested, including suspects linked to the custody and disposal of vehicles allegedly stolen by the syndicate.
Among the vehicles recovered were a 2005 Toyota Camry, popularly known as “Big Daddy,” and a 2014 Lexus ES 350.
Then investigators uncovered the syndicate’s international escape route.
One suspect, identified as Aliu Rabiu, a native of Baruten, Kwara State, who reportedly resides in Parakou, Benin Republic, was arrested on August 20, 2026.
Investigators allege that he served as a link for moving stolen vehicles across Nigeria’s borders.
His interrogation reportedly revealed an even bigger operation: he allegedly crossed more than 10 exotic vehicles into Benin Republic for sale.
From the gunmen…
to the receivers…
to the cross-border vehicle pipeline…
VCRU is pulling the syndicate apart, one link at a time.
The operation demonstrates the value of specialised policing: intelligence, targeted operations and sustained investigations working together to dismantle criminal networks from the street level to their wider networks.
As the VCRU continues its operations, more arrests and recoveries are expected.
This is what happens when innovation meets intelligence-led policing.
The VCRU was created by IGP Olatunji Disu to strengthen the Force’s response to violent crime. Today, its impact is being felt where it matters most, on the streets, in the communities, and against the criminal networks threatening Nigerians.
Crime may cross borders, but the long arm of the law does too.
