The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, has advanced a trilateral security cooperation framework involving Nigeria, the United States and Italy, targeting specialised training for up to 5,000 police personnel.
During his working visit to Italy, IGP Disu engaged Italian law enforcement authorities on strengthening Nigeria’s capacity to tackle terrorism, kidnapping, arms trafficking and other security threats through specialised training, intelligence sharing and technology transfer.
A major highlight was the proposed training programme, which will prioritise counter-insurgency, tactical operations and policing of challenging rural and forested terrains. Other areas include digital forensics, cybercrime, explosives detection, intelligence-led operations and financial investigations.
At a meeting with the Commander General of the Italian Carabinieri, Lieutenant-General Salvatore Luongo, discussions focused on technical assistance, institutional development and enhanced operational capacity.
At the Carabinieri Centre of Excellence for Stability Police Units (CoESPU), Vicenza, the delegation also explored leadership programmes for senior and junior officers, specialised training for tactical units and support for developing Nigeria’s stability policing doctrine.
The IGP further proposed a Memorandum of Understanding to formalise cooperation in training, technology transfer and operational standards, while inviting a Carabinieri assessment team to Abuja to identify priority needs and implementation strategies.
IGP Disu reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to strategic international partnerships that strengthen operational readiness, enhance investigative capabilities and improve the protection of lives and property.

IGP DISU, INTERPOL CHIEF DISCUSS STRONGER ACTION AGAINST TRANSNATIONAL CRIME
The Nigeria Police Force and INTERPOL are strengthening cooperation to track and disrupt criminals and fugitives operating across national borders.
The renewed partnership was discussed in Lyon, France, where the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, met with INTERPOL Secretary General, Valdecy Urquiza and senior officials of the organisation.
The discussions focused on intelligence sharing, access to INTERPOL databases, fugitive tracking and stronger coordination in the fight against cybercrime, terrorism, financial crime, corruption and organised transnational crime.
The Nigerian delegation also received briefings on key initiatives supporting policing cooperation in West Africa, including WAPIS and GEMINI.
The engagement underscores the growing need for international cooperation as criminals increasingly operate across borders. For Nigeria, stronger collaboration with INTERPOL will support intelligence-led policing and enhance the ability of law enforcement to identify, track and disrupt criminals wherever they operate.

VCRU ARRESTS FOUR SUSPECTED ARMED ROBBERS, RECOVERS 25 PHONES, LAPTOPS, JEWELLERY IN LAGOS
…Intelligence-led operation targets suspected robbery syndicate at Idi-Oro, Mushin
Operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), Lagos, have arrested four suspected members of an armed robbery syndicate allegedly terrorising residents around the Iju-Ishaga–Oke Aro axis of Lagos State, recovering 25 mobile phones, two laptops, gold earrings, a gold necklace and three cutlasses.
The suspects, identified as Damilare Oluwatobi, 28; Lekan Adenuga, 30; Haruna Sheriff, 22; and David Balogun, 24, were arrested at their hideout in the Idi-Oro area of Mushin following an intelligence-driven operation launched after the VCRU received a distress call concerning an armed robbery incident and the alleged dispossession of innocent citizens of their valuables.
According to the VCRU Commander, CSP Oyindamola , detectives immediately commenced investigation, leveraging intelligence and available camera recordings to trace the suspects. The painstaking effort paid off at about 1:40 p.m., when the four suspects were identified and apprehended at their hideout in Idi-Oro.
Preliminary interrogation, according to the Unit, led to confessional statements by the suspects, who allegedly admitted their involvement in the robbery operation and disclosed that the gang operated with two locally-made pistols and three cutlasses.
A search of the hideout subsequently led to the recovery of 25 different mobile phones, two laptops, gold earrings, a gold necklace and three cutlasses. Efforts are ongoing to recover the firearms allegedly used by the gang and establish the ownership of the recovered valuables.
The development is particularly significant given the notoriety of Idi-Oro, Mushin, as an area associated with the movement and disposal of stolen mobile phones, electronic devices and other valuables, making it a strategic location for investigators seeking to dismantle criminal networks involved in robbery and the subsequent disposal of stolen property.
The operation once again underscores the importance of intelligence, technology and rapid investigative response in contemporary policing. Rather than waiting for criminal incidents to escalate, the VCRU is increasingly deploying intelligence and forensic leads to identify suspects, trace their movements and disrupt criminal networks at their points of operation.
The Violent Crime Response Unit is one of the operational innovations established under the leadership of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, as part of his broader vision of strengthening intelligence-driven, proactive and technology-supported policing in Nigeria. The Nigeria Police Force has specifically identified intelligence-led deployment and enhanced investigative capacity as key components of the VCRU’s mandate.
The latest Lagos breakthrough therefore represents more than the arrest of four suspects; it is another practical demonstration of the direction of policing under IGP Disu, moving from reactive policing to proactive crime prevention, intelligence gathering and targeted intervention.
Across the country, the Nigeria Police Force has continued to report operational gains under this intelligence-driven approach, including arrests of armed robbery, kidnapping, terrorism, murder and cultism suspects, as well as the recovery of firearms, ammunition, stolen vehicles and the rescue of kidnapped victims.
For the VCRU, the Lagos operation reinforces a simple message: criminal hideouts are no longer safe havens, and stolen property cannot simply disappear into the criminal ecosystem.
POCACOV is more than a campaign. It’s a movement built on compassion, prevention and community.
In commemoration of the International Day of Charity, the POCACOV family visited Cherryfields Children’s Home in Abuja, where relief items were presented to support the children.
Prevention begins with humanity. ❤️
